spoiler-free review
it's ironic that a show that was made to parody isekai tropes such as overpowered MC and a harem has become one of my most favorite isekais of all time. the show is able to pull it off so masterfully and every moment on screen is absolute hilarity. admittedly, it's a bit too reliant on sexual humor, mostly when it comes to Darkness, but when it isn't, it'll make you laugh your socks off.
plot - 5/10
by far the weakest point of the show. it's pretty simple: shut-in gets reincarnated into another world, needs to defeat the Demon King. An episode or two is dedicated
...
to kazuma and the gang going on a quest of some sort and inevitably messing up, it being usually their own fault. Kind of repetitive, but the hi-jinks cover it up well.
art and sound- 7/10
fairly standard artstyle, animation however is really smooth and Megumin's explosions are really well done. Sound is good as well, the opening is nice, not much else to say here
characters - 8/10
our core 4 is what carries this show and has made it one of the most well-known comedies of all time.
Kazuma- asshole MCs aren't easy to write. you need to give them hateable traits but at the same time need to have the viewer support them, or at the very least make them likable. Kazuma isn't your usual flat self-insert. he's a scummy, hypocritical piece of trash, but you can't help but feel sorry for him and even cheer on some of his sleazy acts, mostly because he's surrounded by people who constantly and unintentionally make his life in this new world hell.
Aqua- a whiny and annoying goddess who acts high and mighty, still too hung up on her status as a goddess but comes crying to kazuma the moment things don't go her way.
Megumin- arguably the most level-headed of the group, which isn't that much to brag. Keeping with her appearance as a young girl, she's a stubborn chuuni wizard who only wishes to pursue explosion-type magic and pours all her skill points into creating the biggest nuke possible. a big drawback is that she can only use it once a day and is then completely incapacitated, making her a liability.
Darkness- a crusader who wouldn't hesitate to become a shield for her allies, no matter how dangerous it would be for her. as noble as that sounds, her intentions are far from it. the reason for this behavior is because she's a hopeless masochist who wishes to get capured and tortured by the demon king, making everyone around her extremely uncomfortable.
these 4 characters are intentionally written to be flawed, and it is taken to such a ridiculous degree.
overall, a very enjoyable show and a must-watch if you like comedy and/or isekai

SPOILER-FREE REVIEW
the best way to describe this anime is- if death note was a mecha. however, i don't believe that Lelouch himself is that similar to light yagami. sure, he has an overpowered ability that is used in amazing way, but Lelouch doesn't seem to be as smart as light. he constantly makes bad decisions, which makes his 'i'm so smart because i predicted you would do x' feel very much like an asspull. but he still retains the 'killer for justice' vibe of Kira. Alright, enough comparing. let's get to the anime.
the plot is amazing. it's not as black-and-white as it initially seems. at
...
first, it looks like a run-of-the-mill story about rebelling against a corrupt, oppressive society and while it is that if you want to have a really rough idea of the premise, it takes care to build the world, expand concepts, and introduce some tough dilemmas, both moral and when Zero needs to get out of a sticky situation.
Art is a bit dated but not necessarily bad, when i saw it i remembered the very tall and skinny characters of persona 5. honestly, i found it hilarious. sound is great.
characters are masterful. it's thanks to them that the show feels the way it is. you are forced to see the events happening from different perspectives, making them three-dimensional, and making the viewer really think about the scenario at hand.
overall, very enjoyable, really love everything about this.

SPOILER-FREE REVIEW
i feel that what makes this anime so great is mainly due to it's characters and it's worldbuilding. almost every character is fun to watch play out on screen, they all have their own quirks which make them such a joy to watch and none of them feel useless or underdeveloped. and we get to know more about this post-apocalyptic world Senku finds himself in at a pace that feels natural.
if i had to describe a flaw with this anime, it's that if you take a step back and observe the arcs that happen in this season (and will happen in the next)
...
they all seem to pan out the same way: senku and the gang need to build a new thing from the old world that seems impossible to build with their current technology, so they construct new machines to upgrade their current tech, while running into some bad guys they need to defeat.
if you learn to ignore the plot and focus on the characters, you will have a great time with this

THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS
Let me start off by trying to be sort of nice to the anime: this part introduces the concept of stands, a physical manifestation of a persons fighting spirit (or something along those lines) and has become the main reason why people keep screeching that the Shin Megami Tensei franchise and it's spin-offs are in fact, one massive Jojo reference. what did parts 1 and 2 offer us? Converting the sun's rays into lightning by breathing a correct way. While stands didn't strike me as an incredible concept, i will say it's a massive step-up from Sun Lightning. You have a thicc
...
ghost that is nothing more than an excuse for Araki to try and flex his character design skills (which aren't great in part 3, but he does improve in later parts) and some bs ability which anyone can pull out of their ass. Anyways, decent concept, stops the power scaling issue many shounen anime have fallen victim to. At least it could've been that way...
I thought the plot of part one was the worst this franchise could go but nope, we are given a plot that is too straightforward and black and white for anyone over the age of 12 to be invested in. "We need to kill dio who's chilling in Egypt for whatever reason because I GUESS it will save holly" how do you even know that will work? what could've happened is that they take a few episodes to figure out how to save her, THEN you take the long, repetitive boring journey to Egypt. it would give the viewer something to look forward to, create a sense of mystery. But first, lets talk about Dio. i would save this for the character bit, but i want to get this out of the way as soon as possible. Dio. Shouldn't. Be. Alive. in the very first scene, they show him in the coffin, which we saw erina take with her at the end of part 1. I have no trouble believing that dio took over jonathan's body last-second, as it isn't the biggest asspull that happens in the series. but why was the coffin necessary? just show him trapped in a fishing net or something for christ's sake. this plot-hole didn't even need to happen, which is the worst bit. so fast forward a few years, the Crusaders are punching their way through bland villain after bland villain, until they reach dio. Long, boring fight ensues, and then we get to the biggest asspull of the entire series: Jotaro just so happens to have the same ability as Dio. What, because he's jonathan's descendant? but, it's not like any other descendant's have that ability (no, i know who your thinking of, and he does not count). So uncreative asspull saves the day, hallelujah... wait, why do people call this arc creative and unique again?
if you thought i hated the plot, characters are on a whole other level. let's start off with the crusaders:
Kakyoin: irrelevant, had no development, moving on.
Avdol: thought he was gonna be a type of mentor figure to the gang, disappointed he was just another bland, non-developed character.
Polnereff: nice arc at first, liked how the crusaders were just a means to an end for him, but he stops being interesting early on.
Jotaro: liked his badass nature until it became clear that was all his personality was gonna be.
Iggy: nothing much to say here, just another dog to kill off to show how evil the antagonists are.
Joseph: the other protaganists i didn't care about that much, but I am LIVID at what they did to this guy. He stops being funny and is downgraded to cringy, cheap comic relief.
Dio is now hell-bent on enslaving humanity for whatever reason. Only shows up a few times before the final arc, and none of those increase tension or hype.
I have a strong dislike villain of the week based shows, but what makes this worse is that none of the protags develop an inch. The villains are nothing special, they only show up for two episodes to serve as punching bags for the good guys and are never heard from again. Pointless, dull, repetitive filler for 90% of the show.
I don't like Araki's style that much. it's unique sure, and David productions has taken great lengths to transition it from manga to anime which shows their passion, but the overly detailed style straitjackets the animation and it shows.
Overall, i hated this part the most of all of them. Which is a shame because Stands could've redeemed everything for me, but it was poorly executed

well, my first review, and its not a very positive one.
before i carry on, remember that this is my personal opinion and you are free to disagree with anything i say.
Phantom Blood-
To describe it in one word-disaster. absolutely sucked, and i was tempted to stop right at episode 3. but i carried on, and it only got worse from there. the characters were bland and boring as all hell. i don't get why Dio gets so much praise, he just murders a dog because "haha look at me do the evil". i liked his goal at the beginning being that he wanted the Joestar
...
fortune, because it makes sense once we see the conditions he lives in with his abusive father. but it quickly stops being that, and he just regresses into a big bad for the sake of being a big bad, which undermines his initial coldness and skills of manipulation and make him into a loud, spoiled brat. Then there's Speedwagon. I get that he's only talked about for the memes, but can we be real here, what has this fucker done in this part apart from giving a play-by-play of every single action taken? the other characters are so boring and one dimensional, they don't even deserve a mention, especially Jonathan's dad, whose death was so drawn out, it made it seem more hilarious than impactful and sad.
And then there's Jonathan Joestar. Words don't describe how much i hated his character, and he is the definition of Mary Sue. He's not funny or badass, or clever, he's got no personality at all, his relationship with Erina felt rushed and forced, and his lack of any negative emotions (remember, he still forgives Dio in the end like the Mary Sue he is) made him more shallow than he already is.
Battle Tendancy-
It's a shame that I'm forced to lump this is with Phantom Blood, because this part actually does things better than part 1, probably because it mostly just expands concepts we are already familiar with. The main reason I hate this part the least of them all is because of Joseph. He is funny as hell and does the "I usually act like an idiot but I'm actually smart" cliche well, even if it sometimes comes off as an asspull. Everyone else isn't awful, but aren't outstanding either. Cesear was an alright rival, didn't like Lisa Lisa that much, Smokey is an average comic relief who doesn't add that much. I will say though, Speedwagon was treated better in this part as he doesn't just do some useless narrating, as well as coming off as a father figure to Joseph.
As for this part's villains, they're mediocre at best. Wamuu was the only one I liked, Eisidisi was just...there... and Kars was nothing special, just your good old run-of-the-mill god complex baddie.
