Hello fellow Franxx hater! I agree with your points on the plot basically being a series of asspulls (and not the kind that at least have some thematic bearing like Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill) - that's already bad - but what kills me is that the plot is a series of watered-down plot points from Evangelion and Gurren Lagann, back-to-back in some cases (though way more of the former than the latter IIRC). What would be character defining moments in those other shows are delegated exclusively to disinterested exposition. It gets even worse when you're a massive Gainax nerd like me and you see how much imagery is lifted from their works - again, fairly frequently. Franxx posits an important question: at what point does tribute and inspiration become outright stealing? Watch Gurren Lagann btw.

On rewatches, it's funny because in particular I didn't really like Steins;Gate that much when I first watched it - and yes, it for sure was a different time in my life. Funnily enough I barely remember it now besides the major plot points, so I can go into it with a fairly open mind. I'm not the only one who made the mental connection between that Anonymoose video and Steins;Gate it seems, which kind of shocks me tbh. I'm you could make a converging timeline joke about it somehow.

Just commenting to let you know you're not the only one who loves Kokkoku, and also curious why you haven't watched "End of Evangelion", it's amazing and imo goes even beyond the tv series.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
