It captures some of the more complex themes of discrimination and pervasive racist policies that AoT tried to tinker with in its endgame, but the author of 86 knows what to do with it. 86 does also capture the early feel of AoT's fighting a seemingly endless number of mindless "monsters", the monsters in this case are rogue AI killing machines. Between the LN and Manga adaptations, the former is better in my opinion and there is more of it to consume legally outside Japan as it stands. The manga is a more than adequate as a substitute for the most part but it does lack the context prose of the novels it is based on and you will be waiting longer for content as it is currently behind even the anime adaptation for international consumption.

Captures a similar feel to early AoT before it tried to get philosophical. It definitely takes some inspiration but not similar enough to call it a knock-off by any means. It currently a very fun action title.
