If you're looking a zombie anime that actually does the zombie theme justice, then I suggest checking out Highschool of the Dead instead, if you haven't already. If that wasn't for you, then maybe Zom 100 is for you?
Zom 100 on the surface, felt like it wanted to be a goofy take on the zombie apocalypse. Which is an idea I can get behind, since I've seen it done before in live action zombie movies, like the Zombieland movies. But this anime fails on the execution. completely switch gears and expect you to care about the bad stuff that happened to these characters in the past, that have little to do with zombie apocalypse. Even Shizuka, who's supposed to be the most levelheaded character in the main cast, eventually ends being slightly different version of Akira, like the rest of the main cast. It's like a bad mix of Zombieland and The Walking Dead.
Also, what's with Akira's massive plot armor? Why do the zombies not attack him, when he's in his apartment, yet they attack his neighbors? Why do the zombies just ignore him, when they're literally next to him pulling the truck with him? Why do the zombies conveniently walk away after killing off a few one-off characters? That's right, plot armor.
This anime could've been bearable, if it at least had decent action. But it's the kind of action that you'd typically find in shonen action anime. When they should've used the opportunity to have wiffle bat and gun action, IN A ZOMBIE ANIME. I mean, they even tease you at the beginning of episode 6, when Akira is asked about weapons. He says no, and I guess that meant to be funny?
Overall, this has to be the biggest disappointment to have come out of 2023 for me. I'm sorry I had to feel this way about it, seeing as it has its fair share of fans. To the point it was featured in Gigguk's top 13 anime of 2023 list. I can only guess it must be doing something right, but this was really not for me.

Intro:
I can't help but think, that you'd have to transport yourself back to 1999 in order to understand why this is widely considered one of the greatest anime of all time. But it is still a decent watch so long as you're not watching it out of spite of the internet. That and you can enjoy it for the gun action and cowboy theme at the very least.
Animation:
Since it's a 90s anime, you'll unfortunately have to deal with a 4:3 aspect ratio, blurry backgrounds and bizarrely drawn characters. Though to be fair, I've no nostalgic attachment to the 90s artstyles or aesthetics. With that being

said, the gun action that's there looks good. In fact, it's the biggest aspect of the anime that kept me coming back for more, as a fan of Lycoris Recoil. That and the character designs are distinct.
Story:
To say the least, a diverse character cast here. There isn't a single character that feels like a copypaste of each other. The voice cast, at least for the Dub, was a great choice and none felt out of place. I also love me some cowboy action as a fan of Call of Juarez. Though, there's descrimination of the opposite gender, characters would act like jerks for no reason at times and sometimes they're also dumb. Which may be representative of the times this anime was made, but it also dates it.
Music:
Sadly, there's hardly a soundtrack. There's only really music when there's a plot significant scene happening. Some of them are good and fit the scene they're in, but some of them can hurt your ears due to how grindy they sound.

If you're a fan of RWBY and those negative reviews are deterring you, don't let them. It's a fun watch for what it is and while it lasts.
Story does take a while to get going, it more or less recaps Volume 1 in the first three episodes, albeit some scenes have been altered. For some I can understand, as it would take way too much time to animate in 2D. Whereas sometimes, it alters some of the dialogue for no reason. Like that one scene, where Ruby and Weiss have a little exchange during a fight. In the anime, it sends off a different message.

But once you get past the first 3 episodes, then Ice Queendom's story actually starts and puts a nice spin to the story. It's canonicity may be questionable, but if you pass it off as not-canon to the Rooster Teeth series, it's definitely worth it.
Animation looks good, Though for obvious reasons, it doesn't top the original series, since it's in 2D, isn't as smooth and lacks energy compared to it. So I wouldn't want you to get your hopes too high there.
As for music, aside from the intro, there's not really much to right home about, unfortunately. That's not to say it's bad, just that it's typical of fantasy anime and lacks the unique sound of the main series. It's not Jeff/Casey Lee Williams, that's for sure.

A decent gun action anime. It's no Lycoris Recoil, SAO 2 and SAO: Alternative. But, it's a suffice watch.
Although I've never played the game this anime is based on, at least as of typing this, I was able to follow along with the story, which while simple is effective.
The only disappointing aspect of this anime, is the animation. Compared to SAO, a lot of times, the characters are just standing still shooting at their enemies. Rarely do they run and gun to make the action more engaging.
But otherwise, if you want a military-themed anime or wanted a Call of Duty anime, this'll do just fine.
