I finished Sakamichi no Apollon a few days ago. With other slice of life animes, I usually just watch it, and move forward.

But, with this one in particular, my mind always drifted back to it. I wasn't going to write a review, but this anime resonated really deep with me. I felt so empty after finishing it, and already I feel nostalgic. It left a deep impression on me, and I'm trying to hunt for something just like this one. Unfortunately, nothing comes close to Sakamichi no Apollon.

Story: 8/10
It's really not anything special. The main character is an outsider, befriends the delinquent, and they connect ... through music. It's simple, but beautifully written. Viewers get to see what it's like to live in a small town in Japan in the 1960's, and how the West has influenced their lifestyle due to its presence. The story accurately depicts the common problems seen in youth - love, existence, and simply being.

Art: 9/10
The characters each have their own look to them, and no two characters are quite alike. The animation is bested when musical performances happen, however. Every stroke on the piano and every drumbeat is beautifully animated. The backdrops always fit the mood nicely, and attention to detail is stressed. It enhances the simplicity of life.

Sound: 10/10.
It's a music anime - what else can you expect? They have a range of scores they use, from Jazz to music soundtracks. "Moanin'" is the central piece to the song, and after watching this anime, this piece in particular is what will drive it home for you. The genre of Jazz is stressed - how to play it, what emotions it conveys - and it all centers around Moanin'. The rest of the OST is amazing as well, fitting well in the moods of the current circumstances.

Character: 8/10
It's interesting to see the struggles that they all go through. Each of them are different, each approach life a different way. Even though it may start off a cliche sort of feeling - the newcomer is an outsider, he befriends another outsider, the delinquent, but of course they get along since they're both outsiders - the relationships and the characters themselves develop into so much more than what we are introduced to. I didn't love all of them, of course, but viewers can sympathize with a majority of these characters.

Enjoyment: 9/10.
I really enjoyed this anime, just to make it clear if I wasn't being before.

If you're looking for a slice of anime that will leave an impression on you, I would suggest this. The entire thing just touched my soul and I really loved it. If you have any thoughts about watching this anime, any at all, I highly suggest it. Just give it a try. You won't be disappointed.

I've been deciding if I should write a review for Nagi no Asukara. I asked myself, what if I get carried away? What if I give it too much credit? What if I don't credit it enough?
In the end, I realized that I had to, somehow, try to convey how amazing this anime is.

Story: 8/10.
I'm going to start and say that Nagi no Asukara isn't for everyone. The story is set up in a different world, where some people from the sea (not mermaids, just regular, ol' humans) left their home to live on land. The two different kinds of people became more distant after ... that separation. The story itself revolves around 4 14-year old friends who lived in the sea. They went to school on land, however, because their school in the sea had to close down. The plot then takes off as they try to acclimate themselves onto living on land. The plot may seem like it's heavily fantasy laiden - and it is - however, romance is the most prominent element in this story. If you're not into romance, Nagi no Asukara may be a turn off for you because there isn't just a love triangle, but a love decagon going on. I myself am not an avid romance-genre watcher, but I still found myself completely in love with this anime. Nagi no Asukara focuses the most on the goodness of people when it comes to their friends and those they love. Instead of showing the negative side of human nature that comes with love - envy, greed, selfishness - this anime allows the positive nature of human nature to shine instead. We see the beautiful love and sacrifices that the 4 sea children have for each other. Though the plot may be simple, there is so much more the lies just beneath the surface of the plot, which is what makes this anime so beautiful.

Art: 10/10.
The very thing thing that I noticed when I first started Nagi no Asukara was art that took my breath away. The first scene immediately catches your attention, with beautiful drawn food laid out befre your eyes. Not a single detail is missed. Usually in animes, the background of the scene is neglected and half heartedly drawn. Nagi no Asukara puts that to shame. The backgrounds are all painstakingly drawn, colored, and painted to perfection - from the largest scale waves to the the the smallest detail. Each coral polyp and mountainous treae is there. I spent as much time paynig attention to the background as I would with what's happening in front of me. The background, however, is not the only aspect of Nagi no Asukara's art that should be commended. Not only are the backgrounds drawn to precise beauty, the animation is nothing short of impressive. Focusing on just things drawn underwater alone, the animation (the movement of fish and other aquatic life) is fluid and dynamic. The colors are vibrant and contrasting, enough to compliment the palette that is introduced on the screen. This animation is truly top notch.

Sound: 9/10
Aside from the forgettable opening and closing themes, the sound of Nagi no Asukara is what really moved me to tears. Instead of having a powerful and overbearing OST, with epic pieces and dramatic crescendos, the soundtrack for this anime is subtle and graceful. The notes caress you like a wave; every note is in place. The soundtrack doesn't just contain lyric-less pieces, it includes all types of music. The music matches the tone it tries to create in the scene - no, it SETS the tone itself. From deep voice chanting to delicate operatic pieces, the music is a wide arrangement that makes Nagi no Asukara so refreshing to watch. To me, the music touched me deeply. The pieces are distinct and beautifully composed. The music for Nagi no Asukara should not be taken lightly because it tells so much of the story itself.

Character: 10/10
I have to admit, that when I first started Nagi no Asukara, I didn't like half of the main characters introduced. However, my prejudice quickly fell away as the plot thickened and developed into something I could never imagine. Each characters broke the stereotypes I had against teenagers in love; in fact, they completely and successfully contradicted where I would think their actions and feelings would lead to. As I said in the story portion of my review, the characters' pureness and goodness shine radiantly. The most refreshing thing about this anime is the innocence and selflessness of each of the characters that you will come across. During 26 episode, you will experience joy, laughter, tears, and heartbreak right alongside with them. These characters are so incredible that whatever moves them will move you. Even though, as the series progresses, new characters are introduced, they are not the type of characters to be forgotten easily; rather, all of them will be part of your memory for a long time. They will be a part of you not because of how they're drawn or the words they say, but by their unsaid feelings and their sacrificial actions. Instead of some cliche romance story that you might be familiar with, Nagi no Asukara breaks away from that cliche and creates something to be contended with.

Enjoyment: 10/10
I loved, loved this anime. I absolutely loved it. The story is a beautiful work of originality that creates something so paramount that it makes it unforgettable. It's just a memorable anime because of its unprecendented characters. The art comes no where near the animation you will see with the most popular animes. The delicate sounds brings another layer of feelings and emotions that you didn't think are possible, yet they're there and you welcome it.

Overall: 10/10
I mean, I think I've said it all, really. If you have another doubts about Nagi no Asukara, then let me help you out: Go and watch it. You won't be disappointed at all. :D

After watching Steins;Gate, I can't help but to write a review. 10's across the board, easily.

TL;DR: DO NOT MISS OUT ON THIS ANIME. DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT.

Story: 10/10. This story is, essentially about time travel. A time machine is created, and repercussions are seen as the main character, Okabe, continues to discover its wonders and devastations. As a fan of Doctor Who, I had high expectations of what would come out of this show. Time machines and time warps have been done over and over, so I was a little skeptical when it came to Steins;Gate. However, as my score indiciates, I was ... not disappointed. This story itself is unique and beautifully written. The plot comes to a full circle at the end - what you saw in the beginning with come back and hit you like a tornado by the last episode. It's very original and refreshing, and Steins;Gate is an anime that really impressed me. A majority of people who watches this show would say that the first few 12 episodes were a little boring, and that the plot really takes off at the end of episode 12. The series does do a sort of 180 at around that time. I, however, found Steins;Gate fascinating from episode 1. It really depends on personal preference, though. Either way, it's an anime that you should NOT miss out on.

Art: 10/10. What can I say? The art is beautiful and detailed. From the opening credits to the end theme, not a single brush stroke was missed. Each character is given their own look, very distinguishable from one another. The colors are vibrant, especially when Okabe moves from one world line to another (you'll understand once you start the first few episodes).

Sound: 10/10. Ehh, this is where my review will fall a little short. I'm never one to pay any attention to sound, but when I do, the sounds fit the tone of the scene. During the sad scenes, the sound really moves you. That's all I can say really, sorry about that!

Character: 10/10. I don't even know where to begin with the characters. Okabe, the main character, is eccentric and incredibly intelligent, despite what his actions may lead you to believe. He's unlike any main character I've ever seen before. I know it's of personal reference - some people end up hating the guy - but I loved him right off the bat. He puts his friends first before himself, and he's always striving for the gain of knowledge. He has a childhood friend named Mayushi who we see a lot during the series as well. She's the kawaii, care-free girl that keeps Okabe grounded. Even though she's a little bit scatter-brain (or appears to be), she essentially keeps Okabe grounded in a way that brings him back to reality whenever he wanders off too far in his mind. Hashida is the perverted friend, but who's also a hacker genius. He may seem like a couch potato, but he's full of life and ideas that contribute to the plot. I could spend another hour talking about characters, but the main point is that each and every character has their own personality and unique contribution to the plot. There isn't one empty character on this show.

Enjoyment: I gave this show a 10/10. I obviously enjoyed it. JUST GO WATCH IT OKAY IT'S NOT EVEN A 10 HOUR MARATHON.

I usually stay away from writing reviews, for reasons that I myself don't even know. With that said, I absolutely /have/ to write a review for Another.

I finished this anime about an hour ago, and I can't stop thinking about it. Here's why.

TL;DR: First 2 episodes slow, plot takes off from episode 3 onward. Beautiful artwork, fluid and dynamic animation, and bloodchilling music accompaniment. Highly recommended.

Story: 10/10. I have to admit, I don't usually watch horror shows/movies at all. However, Another has been on my list to watch for a while, and my friend had recommended it to me months ago. I figured that I ... might as well give it a shot, since it's only 12 episodes. And I'm glad to have spent those hours watching those 12 episodes. Admitedly, the first 2 episodes were really slow compared to the other 10, simply because this show takes the time to introduce the characters. The pacing is very well done as well.

Art: 9/10. Aside from the stoic expressions the characters have, the animation is remarkable. Every doll you see on the screen is drawn with immense detail. The violent/gory scenes are done justice; not one drop of blood is misplaced or omitted. The few action scenes are drawn with fluidity and care. Wonderful work.

Sound: 10/10. I have to admit, I didn't pay attention to sound that much. However, the OP is breathtaking and it fits the tone and mood of the series very well. The ending theme, however, is quite forgettable. To be honest, I didn't watch the ending theme at all except for the first episode's because I was so eager to watch the next episode. The sinister and cryptic tones found throughout the show fits perfectly with the scenes depicted. I was clutching onto my pillow throughout some episodes.

Character: 7/10. Yeah, so I wanted to see a little bit more character development. However, I let that slide because I know character development wasn't the objective of this series. It wasn't a slice of life series or a romance show; it was truly a horror show that was more plot based than anything. I didn't confuse any of the characters, though, and the ones that matter have their own personality.

Enjoyment: If it isn't obvious already, I thouroughly enjoyed this series, so 10/10. I would recommend this anime to anyone who would lend a willing ear. It's amazing, and I couldn't put it down, sort of like how I wouldn't be able to put down a good book.

Another is a series that had me at the edge of my seat from episode 1. Yes, the first 2 episodes were a little slow, but at the end of the intro episodes, it left me yearning for me. The plot takes off fully from episode 3 and onwards, hardly giving you time to digest the information and clicking the "next episode" button to find what happens next. This series is mostly plot-driven, and congratulations to the writers, it is executed beautifully. I'm already trying to find time to re-watch this entire series. Absolute oustanding.
