Guilty Crown was an enjoyable anime with key highlights being the art, music and (somewhat) unique plot. Imagery is vivid, and the scenes for pulling voids will blow you away. For the music, it is difficult for an anime to have a singer as the lead female protagonist and not have the songs she sings come off as tacky. Guilty Crown traverses this fine line successfully. The singer they selected for Inori (let it be known this is a different person from her voice actress) has a beautiful voice. The songs that played during the intense battles were quality as well. Crown is refreshing in that there is not a great amount of anime like it. It gives off a Code Geass vibe as you get deeper into the series but varies large enough for me to still consider it unique.
I gave the highlights first; now, I'll talk about my criticisms with the anime. The main character, Shu, falls under the category of "pity party protagonist". He cannot do anything for himself until much later in the anime. The writers needed to give Inori some independence as a character as well. I'm just not the biggest fan of the "girl who is hopelessly devoted to the main character" setup. Overall, I recommend this anime. The story takes strange, not always necessary variations but I enjoyed every episode. This is my first review so feel free to message me about it and tell me what you thought.
