Why is nobody talking about this anime? I was going to watch it believing it was just another plain magic school show to kill some time, but:

There are no OP characters, each character is strong in some way, but that's it.
The anime can be brutal with life and death situations.
It's basically Harry Potter on crack.
People actually get hurt during combat.
Character development is very good.
They don't treat magic as a "cute fantasy" thing, it surprisingly shows how cruel and brutal magic can be.
And oh, the animation is so on point, episode 4 fight was SO WELL ANIMATED it gave me chills.

Still can't believe this anime is ... not being talked about and that it's currently sitting under 7 of score.

Give it a chance if you like:

Good battle animations
Strong character that are not OP
Good character development
Magic

(I'm writing this review after finishing episode 4, will update it when I finish the anime, but for now it's a clear 10/10)

If you are looking for a chill, funny, beautiful and even with some history's interesting facts to watch, Edomae Elf is a must!

Edomae Elf is one of those animes that could be considered "hidden gems" of each season.

The first thing that easily stands out is the quality of the drawing. It doesn't matter if the frame is focusing on Elda, Koito or other characters or how far they are, they are always extremely detailed. Of course Elda have a special treatment since she is heavily inspired by the beautiful elves from the Tolkien universe, but try to also pay attention to the other characters, their ... eyes, hands, nails, hair, expressions, everything is done to perfection.

Only if the drawing was the only thing that stands out. Elda is very interesting, funny and the whole idea of an otaku god fits perfectly with the concept of mighty immortal beings that basically didn't have much to do during the ages. The Koganei sisters are also entertaining to watch and every townsfolk are unique and properly adds to the story, even if just for a little.

Talking about the story, Elda will always be telling how things were during the past and how she interacted with the world. It's not only entertaining and fun to watch, but there are a lot of very interesting and educational information being shared about Japan's history.

As if the art, story and characters weren't enough to get someone hooked to this anime, the OP and ED really left their mark (they are definitely going to my Spotify Anime Playlist), remember to watch them at last once. Nanawo killed in the OP and the ED is very cool for mixing animation with IRL.

People gets Dawn Fall wrong and they forget a lot of things about the first anime.
First of all, BRS is originally a character created for a music from Ryo. The lyrics are about surpassing obstacles and the past.
Then the first anime, which had a story based on the lyrics on the view of the anime's creators, Ezaki and Yoshioka (won't elaborate to avoid spoilers), it's very beautiful and deep.
The ... second adaptation is also based on the lyrics but in a different way, you have to remember that Black Rock Shooter is a music video character based on Miku and that's it. All adaptations have all the freedom they want to create stuff. And the post apocalyptic world was the choice this time.

Arts: it's a fresh take much appreciated since we already had an adaptation with the original artwork. They kept the roots but adding freshness to it and with that enabling the creating of more figures and merchandise (smart move).

Graphics: yes, it's 50% or more CGI, but some folks tend to forget that the first adaptation was also the same way lol. And honestly? This is one of the best blended CGI I've seen, this is high hopes for the future. Of course there were some bad CGI here and there but that was only for small moments, crowds and stuff like that. If you are complaining about CGI you should first worry about the lack of frames per second that almost every anime has. We have tools that even I can use AI to increase FPS without hurting quality.

Story: it's a whole new take on Black Rock Shooter. And it was much appreciated by me. I'm not going to lie and pretend I wasn't expecting something like the first adaptation. But it was their choice and it was good. A lot of references from classics like Blade Runner and The Matrix and a conclusion that brought tears to my eyes when I thought of the lyrics.

With all that said, Dawn Fall is a new take on the original lyrics and they managed to keep the emotions, even if in an unexpected way.
Black Rock Shooter will always be there, for all of us, helping us overcome all of our difficulties, it doesn't matter when, how or where.
