The top review states that this is apparently a very good read if you're a "Death Note fan". I, respectfully, disagree. This short story is absolutely not something I'd recommend to a "Death Note fan" with excitement. Is it Death Note? Sure, yeah I suppose it is and has that similar charm to it, but it's kind of like going from L to Near in the original run. It feels underwhelming, less interesting and overall not as enjoyable and these feelings are only amplified if you were expecting anything interesting to happen. If you want to "hate read" it and then feel somewhat good after ... it ends (the ending redeems the story), then go ahead and read it, otherwise if you're expecting something interesting lore wise or in terms of seriousness and intrigue as the first half of Death Note, well... stay away from this, it's not worth your time.

P.S. I'm only harsh, because the summary, premise and the cover art are all giving the wrong impression.

I don't really write reviews because I don't expect them to be seen by many, but after finally getting around to checking this show out I must say I'm quite pleased. However this isn't a masterpiece and is far from it to be completely honest.

The show is produced with quite a high quality, but under all the pretty art and frankly some of the better written characters in a while, is a quite weird and uninteresting plot that doesn't make much sense once you think about it. The show is clearly not too into fantasy, but it does have some elements of it, but that ... doesn't excuse it from lazy writing. I know that this is the fault of the author who probably just wanted to have more human and comedical encounters, but I would've preferred it if Anya and Yor we're provided by the organization instead of Loid having to find these perfect for the job people by simple coincidence. It kind of breaks a lot of the immersion when an organization with such an important mission would simply leave one of their agents with a single week to find the people he requires to fulfill his mission. What is also weird is the mission itself. We literally see the breaks of a car being sabotaged by some agent in the first minute of the first episode, yet the same method is simply unavailable for our main characters?

Besides these glaring issues in the plot, as of episode 4, the show overall is very enjoyable and even gets a laugh out of me at times with some of it's comedy. The chemistry between our trio is very engaging and I am interested in how all of this plays out. It's just a shame that the plot will always remain in the back of my mind. Hopefully as the show goes on it introduces more interesting things that destract me from my pessimistic view of the story.
