Story - 10/10. It made me question a lot of things. Made me see some in a new light. It also made me cry until I threw up, and sent me into a month-long depressive episode after I finished it. So, y’know, fair warning.
Art - 10/10.
I admit it took me a while to get used to, but I think the style adds to the feeling as the story progresses. The occasional comedy of the exaggerated style creates some lovely tension with the dark subject material.
Character - 10/10.
Complex and (unfortunately) very lovable.
Sound - 10/10. I’m not exaggerating when I say it haunts me. Listening to it
...
makes me sick to my stomach. It’s perfect.
Enjoyment - ?/10.
It’s hard to describe how important this was to me. It legitimately changed my life. It’s also hard to describe how utterly devastating it is. There were definitely parts that I would describe as enjoyable, but there were also parts where I had to turn it off and walk away for a while.
Devilman Crybaby is easily, easily the best series I have ever watched. It is beautiful and horrifying and so human it hurts. I believe it is one of the most important pieces of media of the 21st century, and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.
