This series has too many flaws bringing it down. The art direction and filler episodes are in particular worth criticizing.
The art direction is grim-dark, undersaturated, brown and edgy. It's very 2006-looking and that isn't aging well at the moment. Overly dark lighting occludes for the sake of adding mystery where the story has plenty of mystery already, and the colors really limit scenes where there could have been a stronger contrast to the brown wasteland world.
The filler episodes are harder to talk about without spoilers, but at least 5 episodes would be improved by reading a paragraph of backstory instead. Seriously, just skip 11,
