The conclusion for one of my favourite shows of all time as an anime-only, it was really hard to watch for me to watch since s4e26:traitor because I just felt something just wasn't right. Something is missing since season 4, the old charm, excitement, unpredictability was all gone, But I still think the show as a whole is a great fiction, story and enjoyment value is immense. It is just the plot that brings towards the ending is very screwed for some reason.
I think the best thing for the ending should be that it should have been longer, to give time for people to understand
...
the writer's intention and vision and everything. Like how the reason why if eren did not commit genocide, paradise would be doomed and explain the watchers to understand why there are no other options. I think more people would be satisfied if the ending explored these holes a bit more.
TLDR/ In conclusion: This show is still better than many other anime out there despite the little rushed/bad ending. This is my only review of aot, and I still think it is a good show overall despite the harsh review. I was hoping they could redeem themselves with the final 2 episodes after I see the alliance killed their own breathren in s4. Just do not expect a lot from the ending and you will have a good time and watch. Attack on titan has a very good enjoyment value and is better than the average anime I can guarantee, just a crappy ending because of plot armors, short explanation and not as realistic as the first 3 seasons. Missed potential in my opinion. I was expecting a lot from this show's ending.
Overall animation: 10/10
All Music: 20/10
Overall plot S1-S4: 9/10
Ending plot (too short and plot armors): 5/10
Final rating for the ending: 7/10
Critical points:
First thing first, I think the decisions the characters make, are very irrational/illogical/contradictory in my opinion, I feel like the whole thing is forced to go in a way the writer wanted to. The characters do not feel as natural as I expected to. The hanji squad were so focused on stopping world genocide when they themselves had already provoked marley and commited mad killings themselves. THey would go so far as to kill their own breathren, friends and old colleagues to achieve this.
The show really screwed up to the point I would not even root for the hanji squad, because it is so predictable that they would win and "save the world" in the end. The plot armor is crazy it makes me sick. Normally according to the first 3 seasons, peeps like arnie, gabi, connie, etc would be prone to danger of dying when they are already fighting multiple 9 titans from the past. But guess what plot armor saves them.
The alliance/ hanji squad is so powerful due to the plot armor, I would root for anyone that fights against them. In the scene where Floch died, I thought I would I never sympathize him. I felt disgusted by how Jean and the rest of the squad suddenly acting like they care about his death. I feel so bad for floch man. His death made my heart ache and so hard to watch. It is all so one sided all just to fit the writer's narrative. I sympathize more on Floch and his mates dying than Hanji dying already.
Falco can suddenly fly to make this forced plot more convenient, further making the show unnatural unlike how it used to be and the explanation for this is that he has zeke's spina fluid when he turned into a pure titan. He instantly knew how to use this new power because of some dream right after Hanji sacrificed herself a few minutes ago. Now remember it took eren a lot of time to be able to use his titan powers at the beginning, now falco just instantly brilliant uses his new powers like its nothing. I find this inconsistent.
I am also very unsatisfied by the fact that it is written for eren to kill his own mother. It hurts the show and feels for me.
Last but not least, I just want to complain about how shallow Ymir's plot is. She literally obeys the one man that killed her family, burned her village and enslave her. Even though she have powers to easily escape and live freely, she decided not to. Yeah I get that her life is tragic and all but sh**. You know? She decided to sacrifice herself, bare his babies and give her power to the scum of the Earth King Fritz.
