It used to be difficult more me to answer what my favorite anime was, but I feel fairly secure in saying that it is Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion. At first I was apprehensive because of the show's unorthodox art style, but in the end the characters and story were so vibrant you hardly even cared.

Like many people, I got excited when I saw Shinichirō Watanabe's name on this series, but I tried my best to go in unbiased. Right off the bat, this show was engaging. MAPPA's animation with this show and especially with character design, was executed beautifully, and the settings were gorgeous too. The anime is worth watching even if it's simply to see the obvious stand out scenes that really strike a chord with Yoko Kanno's absolutely superb OST. Even if you're not a fan of the story, this show is beautiful visually and its in music.
