Which do you love more: the journey or the destination?
I ask "more" because, as we all know, both parts are essential to a show. The beginning, the middle, and the end are what make a story.
In the case of Mirai Nikki, however, you won't get a perfect story precisely because you won't get a perfect beginning, middle, and end.
So I ask: do you love the journey more or the destination?
I won't spoil anything except one unfortunate fact, which is better for you to know regardless: the ending is not fully satisfying.
To be specific, the show is 26 episodes plus a conclusion OVA called "Mirai Nikki
...
Redial." Redial is the official ending; watch it after the first 26 episodes. It is conclusive; it does wrap up the series; but it's not fulfilling. It does provide answers; but it does not really give satisfactory ones.
In short: the ending is merely mediocre.
However, the beginning and the early middle are glorious. The late middle slowly descends into the mediocrity of the ending.
Hence, I gave the story a 6. The beginning half was fantastic and sits at close to an 8; the latter half lurked down to a 5 or so.
The art was good. Nothing mind-blowing, but still good.
The music....
Oh my goodness. The music.
The first OP is just brilliant. It's the only thing from the show I continue to rewatch. It showcases the essence of what the show's ideal state of being was. It's excellent. Please give the OP a try, even if not the show.
The characters are great as well, in particular Gasai Yuno. This show is really about her and her interaction and relationship with the MC. She's the reason I watched the show, to be honest.
Hence, I enjoyed the show very much. Even with a lackluster ending, I liked it overall.
Hence, I give it a Good score. If you like thrillers and Yuno's character, and if the OP gives you the good kind of shivers, watch the show. You'll enjoy it.

This proved to possibly be my favorite show this season.
If I wanted to explain all the reasons I loved this, I would spoil everything; thus, I'll have to speak very abstractly. Nevertheless, I hope my enthusiasm reaches you.
Story: 10/10
Absolutely fantastic. The mystery and intrigue blended well with each character's actions and story, leading us along an insane locked room detective adventure, complete with battles, theories, facts, and a grand climax.
Art: 9/10
The characters had great designs and the locale was very vibrant. Nothing struck me as incredible, and at times, you could tell the production value wasn't massive. But it still gave a positive impression. Great
...
color scheme as well.
Sound: 10/10
Some of the tracks were just perfect. One of the battle themes, in fact, is stuck in my head even now. And the OP music style changed to match the mood, which was a great touch.
Character: 10/10
The character development is great. Being a mystery, the rapid changes, theories, backstories and facts all mix together, leading to a race of thought: well, this guy has this backstory, which might suggest this; but this other chap is unknown in this regard, so maybe he might be the one... And so on. The intrigue only serves to drive character development forward rapidly in an excellent manner.
Enjoyment: 10/10
I've always loved mysteries blended with action. This fits the bill. Everything worked out wonderfully.
Overall: 10/10
I am very glad to have watched this.

This show proved to be the biggest surprise for me this season, one which I'm happy to say ended very well.
I won't bring any spoilers beyond the general trends of where the episodes head.
The first few episodes give a very strong slice-of-life comedy drama vibe. It seems like that will be the trend for the whole series, which would make it a rather simple, "done-before" anime.
However, even from the very first scene, the writers slowly began to change the trajectory of the story. Bits and pieces and hints are strategically placed and begin to grow: corporate intrigue; complex backstories; mysteries and secrets; hidden parts of
...
character personalities; and so on.
They continue to build up until they start to reach a tipping point, which drags the whole show into a new direction. With a well-placed twist and glimpses at deeper characterization, the show is brought to a good climax and ends on a hopeful note for a second season.
It should be noted that this is very happily free of a lot of over-used and aggravating tropes. Nowhere do we see some of the romance tropes that make the reader sigh of disappointment, nor do we have horribly annoying characters. Even the presence of some tropes are used for humor, and work well enough.
While this isn't an incredible masterpiece, it certainly is a good show. I give it 9/10 for the sake of being a show I thoroughly enjoyed watching, and hope eagerly for a second season.
Story: 9/10. The twists were well-placed and the plot flowed in an interesting manner. Some might think the beginning lags, but I actually find the contrast of the beginning episodes with where it goes as one of the better points of the show. I like the surprise and slow sinking feeling you get as the show progresses from slice-of-life to something deeper.
Art: 9/10. I enjoy the art. The character designs are neat; emotions are well expressed; locations are well-drawn; I have no complaints.
Sound: 9/10. The sounds always fit the environment. I don't have any tracks that especially stick with me, but they fit the mood well.
Character: 10/10. For spoilerish reasons, I can't say why, but several characters were very well developed by the end. I quite enjoyed them.
Enjoyment: 10/10. Slow in the beginning, but that only added to the enjoyment as the show progressed. It always moved uphill, ending on an excellent note.
Overall: 9/10. A very good show.
