As far as power fantasy trash goes, this anime is very good!
Like always with these kinds of shows, the characters aren’t the deepest or most complicated, it’s the typical harem subplot and the main protagonist is powerful AF.
But still, it’s refreshing to see that main man, even though being a typical Jesus-kun, the supporting cast is also equally powerful. Usually, especially female leads, tend to be powerful at the start, yet once the shit hits the fan, they are about as useful as a hedgehog in a condom factory. that is refreshing for a show like this.
The story isn’t the deepest, but it honestly doesn’t need to. A basic story keeps the show more light, and makes the show more enjoyable. It’s easy to follow along without having to invest too much. This is a good hangover show, or something light to watch just for the sake of entertainment without having to use too much brainpower to keep up.
The cast of characters are perfectly suited for the story being told, from main to supporting cast and even the villains. They all have an easy design, making them easy to recognize at a glance.
There is lots of fanservice, but it never goes overboard. There tends to be a lot of boob groping and such alike as soon as the Ecchi tag is attached to an anime. But this time around it’s more the girls doing the groping, measuring boob sizes with each other rather than constant male lead stumbling and accidentally groping. It’s more throughout in this anime compared to similar shows.
The girls in the show are cute as heck, and most of them have a chance to shine at least once or twice within the show. At least the main and supporting cast of girls actually have something to do with the story, making them a part of a whole, rather than just being there for the sake of fanservice or being a cute girl to look at.
The combat in the show is well done, for the most part the action is done well. The animation is fluid, and it all feels like some thought has been put into the choreography, making the combat scenes feel engaging and entertaining. With power fantasy anime too many random things tend to happen in combat, but this isn’t too bad in this show.
There are odd plot holes here and there (both storywise and with the combat), but they are not big enough that they ruin your enjoyment. It’s the odd secondary event that might have been more detailed in the source material but could have easily been left out as it didn’t have any impact on the main story. There are also a couple of minor things missing towards the end, things that aren’t explained but doesn’t matter too much the overarching story.
The power system is based on the character's motivation, feelings and determination, basically Soul Power. One character wanting to protect others due to past experiences getting a shield. Another one wanting revenge for the loss of their parents, the sometimes reckless personality due to this caused her to dual wield swords, a very aggressive and in-your-face weapon fitting the personality. One being shy and lacking confidence but wanting to be stronger ending up having a lance weapon, powerful weapons yet allowing for some distance to the target. Another one being somewhat arrogant and vain ends up with a rifle, allowing her to stay at a distance, keeping blood, sweat and gore of combat off her clothing staying clean and proper.
The weapons the cast of characters are wielding fits their personality, a very simple premise. But it makes things more interesting than just having a sword wielder for the sake of having a sword wielder. None of the weapons are unique for power fantasy, but adding this extra layer to it, makes it more interesting and well thought out.
In conclusion, I gave this anime a 7 of 10.
Not in any way the best anime I’ve seen, but way better than the normal high school power fantasy trash out there. Good story, nice characters, cute girls, okay amount of fanservice without going overboard. For a hangover show or a “it’s friday night and I’m bored”, this is a good option. It won't enrich your life, but you won’t feel like you’ve wasted some hours of your life either.

Blue Balls of the century!!
It's a cute story to finish off the series. The animation is top quality, and some of the censoring done in this OVA was funny and well made for this being an anime.
My main annoyance with the entire show though, both the two seasons and the OVA (haven't seen the extra fanservice OVA, so can't comment on them), is that the main protagonist never actually get laid. He's surrounded by 5 hot ladies that services frequently, yet he never gets anything in return.

get that. But given how far they go to show skin, bunnies, tusch, even nipples (something I haven't seen outside of hentai, still fairly new to anime though), yet not even off screen sex. I just don't get that.
If I needed some hentai for the expressed purpose you use hentai for, I'd just go to a website providing that. This is a story, a thin one, but one nonetheless. It goes all the way, the only is doesn't show is sex, not even hinting anything off screen. So why bother making a show like this in the first place then??
I thought "maybe, at the 'wedding night'", but one of the short clips with Maria suggest them having sex. Not sure about that though as the censoring was covering up so it was hard to tell. But considering the that he never actually had sex with the other four girls, I don't think he actually ended up having anything with Maria either.
So I just have to ask myself again, what is the point of a show like this??
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it. Some hot naked anime girls in some steamy scenes and some cool action and a pretty sweet action. But when there is so much emphasis on the lewd, yet there is never indicating anything actually happening, then why spend so much time and energy on a show like this??
Maybe I just don't get it, that is possible. I hate to bring Kirito up again cause I'm not a fan for SAO, but even he got lucky. It was all off screen and always suggested through actions and conversation, but no one watching that show had any doubt that he and Asuna had sex at their cabin after they gt married ingame.
Yet this guy marries 5 hot chicks and gets thirsty just by saying no or not doing as they're told (something every guy had fantasies about at one point at least), yet, nothing... No wonder he's so pissed off all the time....
This was my rant for this show. I gave season 1 a 7, season 2 a 6 and the OVA a 6, giving the show an overall rating of 6,33 (this does not count the season 1 and 2 fanservice OVA's as I haven't seen them).
I would have liked to have given then show a higher score, cause I think it deserved it. But the fact that they make an anime so heavy in the lewd yet blueball the main protagonist as much as they do, makes me feel like the show misses the mark.
Either make it the way it is and he bangs the girls like crazy, or keep it way lower on the lewd if they're just gonna blueball. It just feels like such a misstep to a point were in the end, the lewd scenes started to just annoy me. "Here we go again, more blue balling...."
So if you love blue balls galore, this is the series for you!!!

After finishing this anime, I felt I wanted to write why I felt about it, or should I say, didn't feel about it. This is a somewhat lengthy review, so be warned.
The premise of the story is very solid, due to an earthquake the landmass of Japan is sinking into the ocean. Not very original, but still, can be very cool if done right. It's just a shame it isn't done right.

very effectively throughout the show, but they are rarely touched upon.
It annoyed me that it is never really explored when, right as the first major earthquake hits, the main character's choices at the time, while a very human reaction, is arguably a wrong choice. This would have been a very good opportunity for character building.
She's also injured very early on. It doesn't take much to realize where this is heading, it's made very obvious very quickly, yet this is not really anything they use. It pops up once or twice in the story, it felt more like a plot device for the ending than anything else.
Being a disaster show, people will die, you know that going into it. And I actually do think the show did a good job of setting characters up well before killing them off. My biggest issue was that the show never gave you a chance to feel the loss of these people. If the characters don't really seem to give a shit (or the show creators at least don't give the characters the screen time give a shit), then why should I ever give a shit?
If I'm watching a show or a movie with a disaster theme, I fully expect to be on an emotional roller coaster! I want to share with the characters success, I want to feel the pain and loss of a loved one just like characters do.
There are certain characters in this show (I was watching the dub, he might not have been as annoying in the original), a foreign character, he pissed me off something fierce. Had that dude gotten a boulder on his head, I would have cheered whilst others might have cried. Oddly enough though, a character that annoyed me to hell was actually the one character I remember the most from the show, and I'm not sure that's a good thing for a show.
There are also so many plot holes. I mean, the amount of plot holes in this show could make the Titanic seem like an unsinkable ship. Bad pun, I know, but I hope you get the idea.
In the middle of the show a three episode story arc shows up, makes no sense whatsoever. It's about specific plants and magic powers, I don't want to say more than that cause I don't want to spoil it. And you might be thinking, "magic power".... In a show about an earthquake causing Japan to sink into the ocean, but this is indeed the chase.
In this same arc, we explore a character's medical issue, and from a somewhat different and unique perspective then you would normally see. Although, it isn't really explored, cause even without saying anything and therefore spoiling anything, I cannot tell you if this side effect he suffers from is legitimate due to an obvious shortage of medication or something else.
There are so many minor things in this anime that could so easily have been swapped out for a little bit more character development. This would make me infinitely more invested in the characters and therefore the story. But instead time is spent on what feel like totally insignificant plot lines that end up falling flat on the ground.
Finally, I want to talk about the ending. I'm not going to spoil it, but it's not really a spoiler saying that Japan sinks into the ocean, it's literally in the title of the anime. But rather than leaving it at that, they had to give it a happy ending, and in the end it feels more like a travel brochure for Japan than anything else. The last 10 minutes of the final episode might as well be nicknamed "Visit Japan". It felt awkward, out of place, almost like, the idea of a world without Japan is unthinkable, so something had to be made up to solve that.
It could so easily have been written like a natural disaster that ended up destroying Japan (to be fair, a few neighbouring countries are also affected). The entire world comes together and united to help the survivors both escape but also relocate the refugees. That could have been a nice happy ending that also had a subtle political message to help each other out in need. Instead we got the travel brochure.
Conclusion:
If I was free to talk about spoilers, there is so much I could say of things I think are wrong about this anime. If I were to do a list of pros and cons of watching it, the cons list is so so so much longer. I gave this anime a 3/10. It had potential, but in the end, I'm sitting here with one massive question on my mind, actually, two questions.
Question one; What is the idea and the message that this anime wanted to give? Usually an anime has that plot thread that holds everything together, that helps keep the story on track while you sometimes explore a little bit to the side of the path you are on. But what was the overall plot for this show, cause I don't really know. It wasn't about Japan sinking, cause half the time, that didn't seem to be a plot point at all, oddly enough.
Question two; Did the creators of the show have any idea what story they wanted to tell? Was it a travel brochure? Was it a disaster survival anime? Was it about people overcoming terrible odds?? The show was all over the place, it felt like the direction in one episode was so different compared to the following episode, that I got the distinct feeling the creators had no idea what story they wanted to tell either.
