Shinsekai Yori. One of the best anime ever made, in my personal opinion. The story gave a little and took a little from the very beginning that left you wanting more and more and more. The anime was very well done with just a few minor flaws here and there, mostly about little things that don't matter anyway. The story was very creative and very entertaining to watch as all the events unraveled. I really liked how clever and scientifically plausible the phenomenon explained in the anime were. The story was captivating and required you to pay full attention to the things said to understand what
...
was happening. If a person misses an important line or two it might leave them completely confused about what's happening in the anime.
I quite enjoyed how the anime portrayed the village as a beautiful utopia where there's no violence and everyone's living in harmony, only to reveal later that it's actually a complete distopia after the very discovery of cantus. It showed how well the viewer's entire look on the story can warp into a completely different one in just a few minutes.
I loved how the main characters thought they were safe after their camping trip only to find out that the adults knew everything. I really enjoyed seeing how the adults changed from caring and nurturing to cruel and evil to finally misunderstood and acceptable because of one amazing woman whose name I'll leave for you to guess. I very much enjoyed how the story toyed with my opinions on who the actual antagonist was until it was very clear how silly I was to consider the people I did. The way the story keeps me anxious and conflicted was incredible.
The character development was insane. We see how they get over their differences and work together when thrust into a dangerous situation. We see how much they grow from the clueless children we started with to the wizened adults they had to become. We see how incredibly strong they became. The only downside I saw was that we didn't get as attached as we COULD have been to the characters, when in the manga at every up and down my heart would lurch.
Finally the art and sound were very well done. I enjoyed how well the anime was drawn. It didn't have the annoying thick lines that cartoons generally have and it all just flowed realistically. The voice actors did an incredible job capturing the emotion and nobody sounded particularly annoying. The few inconsistencies were so silly I don't even know how I noticed them. The only one I can think of is a tattoo missing every now and then. Silly
Overall I would give the anime a 600/10 but I can't rate it that high. I recommend the anime to anyone who might be interesting without hesitation. I quite enjoyed everything that happened and how incredible it was.
