THIS ANIME IS HILARIOUS.
But seriously, if you came here after watching some intelligent things and hope to find a new anime to fulfill your epicness needs, you can leave now. This anime is dumb, seriously. But oh boy, I can't even tell how much had I enjoyed this whole thing.

I started to watch Kyou Kara Maou simply because of some official pictures on Zerochan. It looked like that sort of "we're-not-shounen-ai-it's-just-happened-that-everyone-here-is-gay" animes, and of course there was wolfram who's a blond tsundere teen and I LOVE BLOND TSUNDERE TEENS.
Believing this anime is going to be another of these try-too-hard too long fantasy animes, I ... invented a friend of mine to watch the first episode together.

HE JUST FLUSHED DOWN THE TOILET OK. AND FIND HIMSELF IN PARALLEL UNIVERSE.
The shock from the first episode made me crush my head against the wall because for their ideas, face palm is not even enough. Oh my god.
"20 minutes of my life that I will never get back", my friend summarized the experience.
"Yes, I agree", I said back.
Of course I continued just after she went back to her business.

AND THEN CAME THE SECOND EP. NO SPOILERS, JUST TELLING IT'S SOMETHING LIKE THE BEST THING EVER. I cried from laugh, I swear. I have no idea who's that person who thought it's a good a good idea to make an anime from this story. Not a good idea. GREAT IDEA. Studio Deen, this time you've outdone yourselves.

After these two episodes, the way into watching the whole show with all their seasons (DON'T YOU EVER DARE WATCH THE 3RD SEASON) was easy. This is probably one of the more stupid thing's I've ever watched, but I regret no second that I spent over this thing. And seriously, there is even A REAL PLOT after something like 40 episodes! Yes, who cares that for a good plot you can see another anime without spending 800 minutes of useless filler eps. But I loved these episodes more than the plot, really. If you give me another 100 episodes of the nothing that happened in most of the show, I'll watch it right now.

Now, for the rating:

Story:
You know what's funny? That after the real story starts, it is surprisingly good. It actually have plot-twists and it's getting interesting with the time, even in compare to another animes.
...Or maybe this anime made me low my standards, I dunno.
Anyway, it doesn't matter since THERE ARE MORE FILLERS THAN PLOT.
So if you agree, I'm gonna rate the fillers instead of the plot:
10/10 FOR THE FILLERS

Characters:
oh my god I love them I love them all
Except Sara, but thanks goodness, he doesn't appear in the first season.
The reasons why I love the characters:
1. The characters are hilarious. Yuuri, as the main character, is a great example for the classic average Japanese student in animes. Which means HE'S DUMB. HE DOESN'T MAKE ANY FUCK*NG SENSE. And yet, all the characters around him takes him seriously and guard him while making his ideas real. The kid has no idea about politics, and yet he runs the country. And somehow everything goes out well just because Yuuri's ideas are nice to others and we all know that LOVE POWER WINS or something like that. Thanks to a 15 years old boy, all wars has been stopped and the human residents are no more scared. YOU CANNOT HATE YUURI.
And it's not just him. Each character of the cast has her own idiotic points. Gunter for example. OR CHERI. BEST MOTHER EVER. I love anyoooone realllyyy

2. WOLFRAM IS PART OF THE CAST. HE'S A BLONDE TSUNDERE ROYAL GAY TEEN. HE WEARS PINK NIGHT GOWN. BEST CHARACTER. MY FAVORITE.
11/10 for the characters including Wolfram

Art:
In the pictures it looks pretty fine. IN THE PICTURES. In the anime itself, specially in the first half of the anime, it is drawn terribly. In some pictures the proportions just doesn't make any sense, like in episode 2, where in some face-shots of Wolfram is... I MEAN, REALLY, the proportions between the forehead the the rest of the face WHAT THEY EVEN ARE. (I've watched that episode around 10 times so yes, I remember.)
In episode 65, another example, THE WHOLE DRAWING STYLE CHANGES. THEY ALL LOOK 5 YEARS OLDER THAN THEY ARE. Watch it and see yourself. And if we got to that point, I really can't count the number of times when you could see that the animators changed. I think there were parts when hair length and such had actually changed.
A good thing is that in the OVA and the 3RD season the animation get's a lot better, which makes you able to that their drawing style is actually really not bad. Too bad that at least half of the 3RD series SHOULD HAD NEVER SEE DAY LIGHT.

About the design itself, I think it was pretty fine and when they remembered how to draw the characters it all looked pretty nice.
4/10 for the art

Sound:
THERE WAS A WHOLE EPISODE WHEN THE OST WAS JUST AN ANNOYING LOOP GOES UP AND DOWN. Even my mom became crazy from just by being around while me and my sister are watching it.
About the voice actors, I think they all suited to the characters they played and were dumb just as they needed. Yozak's voice was really annoying though.
I wish one day I'll be able to sing as well as the singer in the opening, he's just my idol. *-*
10/10 FOR YUURI'S ABILITIES TO PLAY FLUTE

Let's just pretend that you are not searching for an intelligent anime, and you're a teen girl who's searching for a chip entertainment. YOU CAME TO THE RIGHT PLACE.
Starting with countless shounen ai hints, going through gay jokes and finish by Yozak's Drag-Queen career (yes, a spy, I believe you) this show it just A FANSERVICE PARADISE. I don't believe that even one male from the main cast is actually straight except Yuuri, and you can argue also about that. Because if you don't mind, I choose to ignore the second season.

Just in the one of the first episodes, the anime find it right to remind you that GAY MARRIAGE IN UNIVERSE ARE TOTALLY OK. Nothing bad can come from a series which tells you such thing~~~~~~~
Coming though a huge fanservice twist just in the beginning of the series, two options are left for us: Either that the creators of the anime really like to treat their female fans, or that the writers of the script are two 16-years-old-fangirls having a sleepover. Really, after watching the anime the second option even make sense. The anime even take sort of seriously two options for a gay relationship for Yuuri. Yes, YuuRam an ConYuu fangirls, you guessed right.

BUT, as a shounen ai anime, THIS WAS A DISAPPOINTMENT. SINCE IT'S NOT A SHOUNEN AI ANIME.
But as one who really hoped for it, I can say I felt sort of sad discover it's not.
Because in my opinion it has it's potential.
I guess I got those hopes that my wishes will become true by looking at the spoiler pictures on Google. If you watched the anime and did so you know for sure that some things in sceenshots seems TOTALLY DIFFERENT THAN THEY REALLY WERE (no, I'm not talking about actual yaoi you pervs, just about serious shounen relationships).
Yes, I know the question that comes out is "why for god's sake did you believed something will go serious even after you watched the first 10 episodes, you silly girl?"
I HAD SOME FAKE SPOILERS! >:| Don't look at me like that.
Too bad nothing had happened, because the scenes I made up in my mind after seeing the fake-scenes ideas were beautiful. Too bad that the anime went fully-dumb instead of trying take ideas from fake spoilers too, because I believed they could do an amazing thing.
Ok, I don't believe they could do an amazing thing.
KKM should stay the way it is already. Being sensitive and sweet isn't their thing. At least not in the shounen ai way.

This anime had totally awoken my fangirl senses, just telling.
7/10 only for the hilarious fanservice because of the missing chances

OK OK OK. I KNOW HOW YOU ARE LOOKING AT ME. I'll just say it straight:
I LOVE KYOU KARA MAOU. OH GOD, I LOVE KYOU KARA MAOU.
This is just a piece of masterpiece in it's own way. I cried from laugh at some parts, and really, there were some part when I just gone totally "aww". Wolfie in the end of the series I want to hug him and never leaveeee ;___;
The characters are funny and sweet at points, the real plot isn't bad and the rest of the episodes are just SO FUN TO WATCH. I may had watched the whole thing with the most cynical mood, but my enjoyment were 100% real. If you'll watch it with this kind of mood too, I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy. (If you won't, leave after ep 3, this kind of show is not going to change.)

So yes. The anime is dumb. But it's also my top#2 with no regrets. Ok, with a little of regrets. But I really DO LOVE IT SO MUCH, and I'm pretty sure that bored people like me who just want to find something stupid to spend their time with will enjoy this too.

Is they have low standers.
