This series is a bit of a changeup. Most Japanese girls are of the slender body type with only boob sizes that have much variety but this manga caters to the thicc fans out there that like girls a little on the chubby side with a nice peachy butt and big tits. It is pretty awesome this manga started before thicc even became widely popular. As someone that has always appreciated a nice round butt I'm pretty happy this exists because not many other series have depictions of chubby girls at all let alone main characters or in exposing ways.

The interactions between the male and ... female leads are also warm and fuzzy. Especially when adults get involved like the female leads trollmom that teases her daughter about her crush and tries to set them up, or the male leads genre savy parents that insist their emotionally retarded son go with the female lead when she invites him places and give him crap for being stupid and thinking about turning down the chance to make precious memories with a childhood friend.

Sadly that is about all this series has to offer. It is just the same bikini and underwear shots of the female lead in a variety of positions in situations with predictable outcomes. As far as comedy goes it is too predictable to be funny and not pervy enough to be considered pervy.

Also it is currently 120 chapters in and minor spoilers but they aren't even dating yet. There are a few things going on that might lead to a confession but who knows if they will ever actually lead anywhere. By chapter 30 (minor spoiler for one of the gags) a situation occurs where the female lead wakes up with the male lead holding her bra. Of course he isn't actually attacking her in her sleep and there is actually a reasonable explanation for the events that led to this happening but she freaks out saying "There is a proper order to these things!". If a girl wakes up topless and you are holding her underwear and her main concern is that you aren't progressing your relationship with her in the right order (like say asking her out first) that is a clear as day sign that she is into you and wants you to ask her out. I mean you can't get a stronger green light than that unless you are expecting smurf sized airport control guys to come out with glow sticks and signal your dick in for landing. By chapter 30 they both have no excuses not to be aware of each other's feelings and at chapter 121 they still haven't made any real progress so that's complete bullshit. This is clearly a series that is never going to go anywhere.

If you have already covered all the staple feel good relationship series like toradora, golden time, hell even worlds end harem and are looking to consume every single romcom with a warm feelgood vibe to it then go ahead and pick this up. If not I'd give it a pass. It is enjoyable but in no way stands out other than having a deliciously thicc female lead. If you are looking for something pervy then To-love-ru, kiss x sis, akisora, hell Elfen Lied (if you don't mind gore and horrible horrible sadness) have way more to offer. And if you just want something to make you smile then shows like k-on, great teacher onizuka, ect have way more development and actually have a story to tell.

7/10 overall because I'm stoked to see a nicely sized girl for once.

While playing the visual novel I can honestly say that Heaven's Feel was the route that played out the best out of the 3 available paths in the legendary Fate/Stay Night Visual novel. In this route you find out the most about the background characters and not just this war but the previous war as well, also the side characters have the most fulfilling endings. Attempting to condense what should have been at least 2, preferably 3, full seasons of anime into 3 movies resulted in a complete trainwreck. So much important content was left out of this first movie I don't see how the ... final 2 movies could possibly fill in the gaps.

Overall I give it a 5/10. Perhaps if you haven't played the Heaven's Feel route of the vn you won't know what you are missing but the feelings I'm left with are best summed up as: Disgust, disappointment, and sadness.

As a kid (early teens) I was just finding out about the ability to watch anime online and that opened up a whole new world for me of "mature" anime that was too dark, pervy, twisted, or gore filled to be aired on regular tv. (Believe it or not finding out you could watch Naruto subbed on youtube a few hundred episodes ahead of the English dub was actually a big revelation once upon a time. Sure it was broken up into 3 parts per episode and at least one of the parts was taken down by a copyright claim so you could never get ... the segments to line up but hell it was worth it.)

Anyways the sexiest and murderiest of the shows I discovered in that period of my life was an anime called "Elfen Lied" and holy shit was it unlike anything I had ever seen before. Sure there are pervier and bloodier anime around today but 14 years ago in 2004 this was a serious game changer. It had German influence which is a theme not often seen in anime and was filled with guts and nudity. Girls were horribly experimented on and gained super powers but also usually went completely fucking nuts and turned into killing machines. Also the mc was a regular dude who just happened to meet the strongest girl when she was a kid before they were tragically parted. It is kinda lame that he has the typical main character "every female must fall in love with him" trope despite not being that special but he does risk his life for the girls fairly often and they have been abused to hell and back so I guess it is understandable they would fall for the first person to not lock them up and torture them.

By now you're probably wondering if you're reading the wrong review and my answer to that is that the review for Brynhildr in the Darkness is the exact same. I started watching the anime because my experience with Elfen Lied had left such a strong impression on myself as a child that I'm now instantly ready to watch any anime with a German name and sure enough it lived up to the legacy, a little too much in fact. This manga is basically just Elfen Lied but with Conan from Detective Conan as the main character. If you liked Elfen Lied or like dark stories about girls that can kill with their minds and get naked a lot then you will like this story. I would be saying it was a ripoff of Elfen Lied except it was made by the same person and if they want to use the same setup twice to tell two entirely different and good stories then fuck it I guess. Anyways the anime ran out of time to finish the first season to the point where it had characters that died appear alive again in the credits of the final episode without any explanation at all (and it would not have been hard to add) so I strongly suggest reading the manga first and not the other way around like I did it: Watching the anime first and being confused and let down as all hell and coming to the manga for answers to a criminally bad anime adaptation. (to be fair only the ending sucked and it only sucked because it was rushed at an insane pace.)

A word of warning to people reading online English translated versions of this manga: The last page of the last chapter is missing in an upload that is on many sites. Something you should be aware of because it answers a lot of questions.

This story had a few asspull moments where things that never should have worked happened and the main character despite being super smart did things that should obviously get him instantly killed and dying became largely a joke towards the middle of the story and it seems like everyone has come back to life at least once by the end of the story but it is still pretty damn good. I'm also a little frustrated by the fact that all the girls he saves turn out to be super incredibly strong and basically the best at their types of magic despite the fact that he only met them because they were supposed to be killed for being weak but it doesn't eat at me too much.

Overall it is a great and thrilling story about some tortured girls used in lab experiments that gave them super powers at a terrible cost trying to live their lives as best they can despite being hunted by stronger and stronger assholes.

I also feel the need to defend Kazumi, yes she is forward and from the very moment she meets the main character is trying to fuck him but they even go so far to point out in the manga that when faced with the fear of death some people really want to make babies. Not to mention girls can be pervy too. A lot of people think her character is not believable and hate on her because she is so forward but that's just the way some real people are so it is completely fine with me to have a character like that show up in a manga.

I give it an 8/10 for being an amazing story with a few flaws.

(Spoilers for the final chapter) Something this mangaka evidently enjoys doing is ending their stories with unexplained endings (In this case made even harder to understand if you read the translated version online missing the final page) so here is my interpretation of the final page:
(Roughly translated the text is just the Ryouta mocking Kazumi because her chest size is the same as when she was little. Imo that is the ideal feel good joke to go out on so I'm happy with that.)
1) Kotori is there because the things Loki eats get absorbed into EDDA and she was eaten after the memory purge.
2) It doesn't explain why Kazumi is there or why she is little but my best guess would be that when she had access to Loki's memories she uploaded herself. She probably knew that not destroying his memories entirely meant there was a chance Ryouta could still end up merging with them or at the very least thought it was better than dying. As for why she is little my best guess would be that she only had a limited amount of time to upload herself to EDDA as she was melting so she sent the important stuff.
3) The shadow in the bottom left is hopefully Nanami because if Ryouta's brain is EDDA and it contained a planet full of aliens the idea that it could run out of space is bullshit and she never should have needed to delete herself in the first place. Also Ryouta promised he would never forget her which is probably why she is just a shadow but as Kazumi pointed out in her cyberfight earlier deleted data is easy to recover if you don't write over it, so hope for her being restored more fully exists.

[SPOILER WARNING]

So far I'm really enjoying this story. Vampires live alongside humans but have to be super careful because they are stronger and can easily hurt humans and also go into frenzy and will rape and kill if they see blood. Naturally there is discrimination against them and harsh laws restricting their lifestyles because they are dangerous and it is very easy for them to lose control. Despite that vampires are essentially humans underneath and most just want to live their lives, go to work, fall in love, and not be hated by everyone.

The problem is how easy it is for them to go out ... of control and hurt someone and get hooked on blood sex and rock'n roll. The story being told is very interesting but it has been done before: Halfbreed police officer stuck between both sides falls in love with a regular human. That said some new twists get added onto the story that make it different than the other series that have covered the same outline. When the main character goes out of control and gives in to his vampire half those around him are actually in danger for one, and he isn't always in control; they really sell you on the struggle. Also while he is trying to regain control it isn't all epic action series "the power of friendship will conquer all" moments, there are sad pathetic "better lock myself away" moments that strike me as far more realistic than I've seen the situation depicted as in other series.

Naturally this story is "edgy" but I think it has the right amount of edge and isn't just edgy for the sake of being edgy. They get the little touches right like making the main character look sleep deprived all the time because he isn't getting blood and not looking like a glittering prettyboy despite being a dangerous, starved, killing machine. I feel like they might be telling a tragic story for the sake of telling a tragic story and it may turn out that way but so far it has been pretty dang good so I'm in it for the ride to find out.

The atmosphere and tone of this show fits a dark romantic thriller with berserk vampires blending in to the population. To describe the atmosphere as best I can I would say it reminds me of old detective stories where everyone is smoking heavily.

Other than being worried in the future the show will cross over the finely walked line between gritty realism into "edgy"/"stupid emo fantasy" territory my only immediate problem with the show is I really have a hard time believing the female lead is anything other than a living fleshlight. In the first episode she gets some truly horrible news and she recovers from it almost immediately and seems to get on with her life just fine. (Spoilers for the first episode to follow) I feel like it is totally unrealistic to find out that your best friend has a crush on you and because you rejected him (even though you didn't actually dislike him) he went berserk and raped and murdered other women to avoid hurting you in his out of control state and not blame yourself for it. She neither blames herself for it nor her former best friend and one or both of those things should definitely be going on. To make matters worse she then falls for the guy that arrested her best friend. That's a whole new level of friendzoned. It just feels like other than being a nice girl that cooks a mean hotpot she has absolutely 0 personality. As it is still early in the show I hope this is something they expand upon in the future.

The male lead going after her becomes even more questionable as his female coworker is constantly flirting with him and has way more personality. She's a 10/10 future trollmom. Not to mention she is also a vampire so he wouldn't need to worry about seeing her blood and eating her alive one day or hurting her on accident. Sure the female lead is nice and the shy girl with big tits flavor of pretty but underneath the tropes there isn't even a skeleton. All she does is act shy and blush. (Spoilers for episode 2 to follow) She almost gets raped by a guy and guess what she does the entire time? Acts shy and blushes. I don't dislike the female lead because there really isn't anything to dislike but the partner clearly shows they can at least make a female with some personality so I really hope they develop her character in the future.

Right now I'm giving it an 8/10 overall and suggest watching it if you like a good tragic romance story or gritty vampire thriller. It feels a lot like a cross between Blood+ and Psycho Pass (season 1).

This is not a substitute for watching the original series so you can experience all of Code Geass seasons 1&2 in just 3 movies but if you watched the show years ago and want to relive the experience but don't have time to marathon 2 seasons of anime then this does a far better job than most condensed to movie adaptations.

The stuff it leaves out/covers in less detail is generally very well done so the movie has a nice flow and still covers all the important developments. However they made one glaring mistake when it came to deciding what material to cut. This movie cuts ... out almost every interaction anyone has with the characters Shirley and Euphemia which is a massive problem. The relationships formed between Lelouch and Suzaku and them are incredibly important to the development of the plot and if someone were to only watch the movie version they would have almost no idea who they are or why they are so important and beloved. The sad thing is it would have been such an easy problem to fix by just extending the movie's run time 5-10 minutes.

For reference I gave the original show a 10/10 because even though it isn't perfect it was just so much fun to watch and I gave the movie an 8/10 because they left out the heart of the show by cutting out any emotional developments.

Lets talk about the big huge problems with this show first: The Art and animation.

While I found nothing offensive about the way this show was drawn it certainly does not have "mass appeal" and I'm sure many people will be constantly taken out of the story because they can't get into the art style. Also the colors chosen for this show are clearly a tie in to the popular anime music video ME!ME!ME! which is also about debauchery and human vice. Here is the problem though, this is a netflix show with the goal to reach more than just the casual anime crowd and even ... the casual anime crowd is taking one look at the art in this show and saying "that's a flaming piece of garbage". So how the hell are non anime fans supposed to be exposed to anime for the first time with such a high barrier to entry? Also holy fuck the running animations are just the worst, literally taking an extra point off the entire score because they are just that bad. I understand demons are superhuman/natural and shouldn't move like regular humans but someone should have taken one look at the running animations and fired the person responsible.

The sound is fantastic though (with the exception of horrible engrish in the sub version. My fucking god hire a native English speaker or at least a competent one for those scenes.) and the hip hop/rap performed by the characters is notably impressive.

The characters themselves are compelling and real and you really get hooked on wanting to find out what is going to happen next. This is easily the best character development I have seen in a show in a long time.

The story itself is very flawed though. It differs wildly at the end from the manga ending and leaves out a massive part of the story as well as a ton of information about the relationship between the 2 main characters. The best I can hazard is they are hoping for a season 2 to reveal all this but the problem is the way they ended season 1 I don't think season 2 will get funding. They basically picked the absolute worst spot to end the series if they wanted to be able to convince people to come back and watch more later.

Overall a very flawed adaption of some really good source material. I give it a 6/10.

If you watched the anime/first 2 movies then you definitely should see this movie, it completely lives up to original series and imo provides a much needed continuation and resolution to the story.
Overall = 9/10

Long review with spoilers:
Generally speaking I prefer character deaths to be permanent because to revive a dead character just cheapens the show and makes it feel that there are no stakes. However because this is a story of Gods and Devils and near omnipotent alien demons leaving characters that could easily be revived dead with the wave of a hand would be absolutely retarded on the part of ... the all powerful beings that mourn their loss. Leaving them dead would be akin to saying "well we need the audience to be sad for the story to play out". So I'm absolutely satisfied with the way this story played out and how some much loved characters that were lost were able to get happy endings. In fact my main complaint with the original series was that once Madoka became a god even if she couldn't prevent her doomed friends from some of the mistakes they made without destroying the timeline certainly she could at least save them and take them with her so she wouldn't be lonely and it turns out she did exactly that!

I do have one minor gripe and it is that the movie ends with a completely forced conflict. The alien demons realize emotions are too dangerous to fuel their experiments and all Homura has done is bring some of her dead friends back to life so they can all live happily, so why the heck are they going to have to fight one day? Sayaka says she'll always remember that Homura is her enemy but HOW? Literally as she is saying this Homura is editing her memories so why couldn't she have Sayaka forget they are enemies? And speaking of why, WHY does Sayaka consider Homura an enemy? They are friends, Homura hasn't hurt anyone or damaged the law of karma by restoring part of Madoka to life, and now Sayaka can live again as well and she was so happy to interact with her friends again it moved her to tears... WHY THE HELL ARE YOU ENEMIES?!? And when asked Madoka told Homura that people that break the rules are bad but it was a rule Madoka herself made so what gave her the authority to make rules but denied Homura the authority to change them? And as the person that made the rule shouldn't Madoka have the authority to allow someone to change or bend that rule? Surely Madoka has the common sense to understand that if you a bend a rule without hurting anyone to save people you love then what you have done is a good thing. It just feels like the entire buildup to a future confrontation is complete bull because any conflicts they have either shouldn't exist or should be easily resolved with a short conversation.
Homura: "I saved you because I love you"
Madoka: "You broke the rules so even though I care deeply about you I guess we have to be enemies now"
WHAT?!?!

Okay I also have a second minor gripe, how the hell were the aliens able to build a prison that God couldn't just shatter to allow her to save Homura without entering? Homura did mention it was her second time changing the laws of the universe though so I'm prepared to believe that her first time around she made it possible for that barrier to exist and for her to overwrite Madoka's memories before becoming the devil but I wish they had explained that in the movie.

This anime had an interesting world to explore, a strong start, good characters, and a story that really made me want to go along for the ride. The problem is it never really goes anywhere. Sure they have to round up some allies before they storm the castle but it just doesn't feel like anything gets done because they never explain how rounding up the allies will help them accomplish any of their goals. Yes they are legendary warriors but if a regular human is better than them what makes them so necessary?

The story is basically just: "We need to do the thing." And then ... it never explains why they need to do the thing. Same thing with the Antagonist. Spoilers for episode one to follow: He betrays his childhood friend and the girl that loves him by killing the king but it never explains what any of his goals are or what led him to believe the king deserves to die. Sure it explains that someone told him something that made him want to kill the king, but why would he believe that information and act on it and where does he plan to go from there?

If you are telling a story by the time you are 24 episodes in you better give your audience a clear grasp of what the hell is going on and what your character's goals are. I want to like this story, I really do. It has cool characters and the way they build up their bonds is really nice and everything that happens in the show is done well, it is an enjoyable show. It just doesn't feel like it has any direction because one is never provided. In episode 24 both the protagonist and the antagonist are asked what their plans are and one says "idk lol" and the other says "lol watch"... for the love of god tell us what is going on! They don't even explain what the "true powers" of her allies are or why the thing that is supposed to happen when they all assemble didn't happen.

Also it feels kinda like they ran out of time so for recruiting the fourth dragon (spoilers) he just shows up and joins them and doesn't appear to have any powers.

Other than not defining where the journey of the antagonist and protagonist were going and (I believe) running out of time and rushing the last episode or two the only things the show did that actually annoyed me were 3 traits of the princess:
1) Relationship obliviousness - typical main character bs. Your bodyguard wants to impregnate you, she really should have realized this numerous times.
2) She has red hair - everyone is looking for a "red haired princess"... dye your hair! You're on the run and have a single identifying trait! Do something about that!
3) Death stares are not real - just because you look at someone with a determined look in your eye and are a beautiful princess does not mean they are going to give a crap, especially when they clearly have the upper hand in the situation. Please stop doing this every time something bad happens to magically intimidate your way out of trouble.

Honestly though those are minor gripes and the vast majority of the show is good. My main problem with it is that it could easily be great but just doesn't seem able to pass that barrier because it is afraid to break away from tropes. 7/10 show overall. Think of it as a not as good version of Arslan Senki.

I was very excited to see a second season of Tales of Demons and Gods was airing but sadly it isn't more of the main story and just random bs instead.

If you have 170 chapters of the main story to cover why bother having an entire season dedicated to side stories? Given the horrible cgi this show is made entirely out of I think it is fair to assume anyone bothering to watch it is probably doing so because they have read and love the manhua and loved the main story, so having things like "oh no this person is in danger" in a side ... story is a total waste of time when you see them a hundred chapters later and completely ok in the manhua. Not to mention this means that the 100+ chapters that have yet to be covered will take even longer to actually get animated and given the fact this is a low budget web series that means we may never get a season 3 or see the real plot progress.

I'm glad to be getting a season 2 of this show, I just wish it mattered.

The series itself is still absolutely fantastic and one of the most interesting I have ever read. Also unlike similar action series it has a steady power progression and not constant random powerups pulled out of nowhere. To the credit of this season of side stories it is still up to par with the main series, just a bit forced.

The main problem I have with this show is that the entire premise of the show is F**king retarded. "Someone killed mine and my fiance's dads to prevent us from being wed and bringing peace to the land? Well I love my dad so much I'm going to do exactly what the people that murdered him want! I'll go to war and a whole crap ton of good people are going to die on both sides!"

WHY????? It's just so dumb I can't even begin to make an excuse for it. It bothers me to no end to think ... that no one producing this show was like "We've got good sound and art and the character development/interactions are phenominal, we're telling an interesting story set in a fantasy world with great world building. All we need is a premise for this war to occur..." and no one called them out on the one easily fixable glaring issue the show has: There is no logical or emotional reason for any of this to be happening. And it would be so easy to have written something, anything, that even sort of justified going to war. Like each side being suspicious the other was responsible for the attack or something but none of that happens.

I would give this show a 9.5/10 but because THERE IS NO REASON FOR ANY OF THE EVENTS IN THE SHOW TO TAKE PLACE I'm bumping it down to an 8/10.
