[THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS]
It's been a very long time since a series could make me feel so fixated and interested in a world. I have been meaning to make a review on "Magus of the Library" or "Toshokan no Daimajutsushi" in quite a while, but never really had the time, but now that i have, i will write to my hearts content.
STORY (10/10)
The story it's one of the main traits of this manga. "To protect the books is to protect the world", said the "Great Magus" of the past, doing exacly that. Knowledge is the most powerful weapon in the world, however, knowledge alone does
...
not suffice to create a better future for us all. Something this manga does great in demonstrate is how the "powerful" and "wealthy" tend to try and manipulate the flow of information and create a "doctrine" by sorting the books the masses can or cannot read. And thats where the "Kafnas" of the "Central Library" comes in, punishing said acts with an "iron fist".
The "Central Library" is stationed in "Aftzaak, the City of Books", where most of all books reside, and also, the people that "tend to" or "protect" them, the "Kafnas", who are divided into 12 offices, each with an individual duty related to the books.
"Knowledge alone does not suffice to create a better future for us all". Indeed, and thats where "Magic" comes into play, however, at the moment, the story have not explained about it in great depth. But, thats understandable, to a certain point, because most of the people in this world either does not have or have a very "small" amount of "mana". I feel like the manga, at the moment, is approaching a very important part of its story, especialy in the latest chapters, with the appearance of certain characters. I am very enthusiastic to what comes next in this journey.
ART (10/10)
This series have one of, if not the most amazing background illustrations that i have ever seen. How does anyone have the time to draw all of the tiny details, it is unreal. It's downright inspiring to look at the deserts, the tall buildings, the small shops here and there, the wildlife, the mountains and the rivers. Especially with the various races of people that existes, all of them have different cultures and folklore, which is even more work to make all the different styles and customs for each.
Definitely an easy 10/10 for this part of the review.
CHARACTER (10/10)
All of the characters have their own personality and interests, that is to say, they feel unique. Well, at least the main ones anyway. They are all lovable and charismatic, even the ignorant and rude bunch exist to create a sense of adversity, that the world is not such a sweet and pretty place, and that the races once had wars with each other, which can still be felt after these dark periods with the discrimination shown by them.
The protagonist is also extremely interesting. He is very inteligent, to the point that it becomes scary, however, its a different kind of inteligence. He has a impeccable way of making people like him. Part of his success in that sense comes from his interests in learning othes cultures and costumes, even the language. That way, he's seen as someone very open-minded and friendly, even to others discrimination towards his ethnicity, as he is a "very rare" kind of mix between two other races that hated each other.
ENJOYMENT (10/10)
I really enjoyed and will probably continue to as this series progresses. As i said, a long time has passed since a "Fantasy" series like this one made me so interested in it. Now, i don't know if my interest in this manga comes from it really being a incredibly written story that holds it's on whatever other series it tries to compete against, or if it is because, in this day and age, a "Fantasy" series that is purely fantasy, with a deep world building and characters is so rare that it ends up inflating my interests due to a lack of others series of the same caliber.
Well, whatever it is, my emotions for this one in particular are not a lie, and i indeed believe that its one of the best mangas out there and definitely a must read for anyone.

[THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS]
Upon finding "Fumetsu no Anata e" or "To Your Eternity" for the first time, i was in awe with how well the synopsis and the title worked together, an "immortal being" who is one day created by "someone", is placed in the wild and savage world of ours, but for what end? What could his creator wish to achieve with such creation? The "thing" didnt have anything, self-awareness, a conscience, thoughts, or even a will of its own, all it had was the ability to take the shape of those around him.
Another way that this story can be called is "To you,
...
The Immortal", almost as if the shapes and things he took and learn along the way were gifts?! Gifts from the ones who Death rules over it, to someone who Death has no control upon it, the "Immortal". And there he goes, he will see the beginning but not the end of his "life", the rise and fall of kingdoms, the birth and the death of his friends. Thats what made me fall in love with this story.
STORY (6/10)
The "Intriguing and Thought Provoking" ideia the was introduced by a "Immortal" character and how it was presented in the firsts chapters made me completely fall for this series, however, it feels to me that this is not at all what the author was trying to convey in the consequent chapters. This story that, in the beginning, sounded like a "Psychological Masterpiece" shifted into a "Action-Based Shounen", with the appearances of enemies, called "Nokkers", creatures that would stalk the protagonist and steal the "Vassels" he was gifted along his journey, and would constantly adapt depending of the battlefield they encounter themselfs into. This, and also a lot of other things in this show, felt extremely unnecessary. The "Nokkers" don't bring anything important to the story nor to the characters, and even their "reasons" are incredibly obscure. The "Creator" appearing very early in the story also felt the same way, but that i don't mind it much, because at least he has some "Weight" to the story, different from the "Nokkers". It is sad for me to say but, just like others reviews, i also think that this series shoud have ended around chapter 110, because after this point, i don't think even the author knows what this series is about anymore.
For me, "Fumetsu no Anata e" was a show that was trying to be something that clearly was not. Even if it had the potencial to be something truly amazing, it chose to be something else.
ART (10/10)
I don't really like to compare completely different mangas like those two, but, i don't see a problem in compering only the art. This series compared to "Koe no Katachi", Another manga of "Yoshitoki Ooima", is an amazing improvement in the "Art Department", although i would not consider "Koe no Katachi" ugly in any way, this is definely an step in the right direction.
CHARACTER (7/10)
Even if i didn't like how the author chose to tell the story, the characters she created for this show was not bad at all, but that does not mean they were good in any way. I did not fell "sad" for ones death or "Happy' for anothers survivor, especialy when the protagonist realized that he could "resurrect" his past alies with no cost at all. Because why would i fell "bad" about someone dying if the "Immortal" is just going to "revive" them?
ENJOYMENT (5/10)
I did not enjoy this series whatsoever, every chapter i read, i had hopes that the show would somehow become everything i had experienced in the first few chapters and leave the unnecessary things behind, but every time i was wrong. It insisted in trying to be something that it was not, as if it was hiding behind the "flashy action scenes" or the stupid amount of "unnecessary stuff" that the show presented.
In the end, the thing that bothers me the most is that, even though it was one of the biggest disappointments i have ever seen in any media, i could not call this manga "bad", and for what reason? My love for Yoshitoki Ooima's Writting? Or maybe for her other works? No, i know why, its because i fell in love. Not with this series, but with what this series could have been.
