Nichijou is the greatest anime I've ever seen in my life and it will probably stay that way. Its English translation is my ordinary life and even though and first it would seem like it's anything but, it takes all your real life experiences *all the awkward moments, all the small pains you go through in your everyday life and just animates how crazy those moments are in your head.
For example, getting bit by a dog feels like you just died and with your pain, you could summon a giant beam of light that pierces the heavens. That's what happens
...
in Nichijou. I don't think I've ever gotten as attached to any set of anime characters as much as I did when I watched Nichijou. It's like when you watch a really long shounen that spans hundreds of episodes and you get really attached to the main cast. Except in Nichijou they were able to do that in just 26 episodes.
I think one of the greatest factors in this is relatability. You see the characters go through all sorts of small pains that you experience in your everyday life. It also shows all the happy moments in life too when hanging out with your best friends(and all the awkward moments that come along with it). I feel like every character is a different part of my personality and I love it. Relatability isn't the only thing that makes this anime great, however. It also has some really wholesome moments while also having the most random and hilarious moments.
It will go from having a fun "kawaii" moment with two characters to seeing someone opening a random book with a gun in it. It's honestly hilarious while also staying relatable and wholesome. The dynamic and chemistry among the different characters in the show which is actually only in the anime. I've read the manga and the anime really improved on those parts. The anime can also have some really heartfelt moments like the end of the second episode which almost makes you want to cry. The last episode was also amazing in encapsulating the feeling of the anime as a whole while also having heartwarming moments while being hilarious. And I have to give it to the animation studio because parts of the second to last episode and almost the entire last episode were anime only and perfect. You look forward to the finale but also kind of dread it because you'll have to say goodbye to the show and all the characters in it.
Another thing I really like about Nichijou is how the anime itself works. Each chapter of the manga is like its own little mini-story with the characters, and as the manga progresses it all connects together and works great. The anime works with this splendidly by having each chapter as different "parts" of each episode and connecting it all together for the episode with anime-only magic.
They have great cutaway scenes in between each "part" which can sometimes be a little scene with some of the characters which can range from something funny/relatable to something incredibly cute. Each episode also has its one little cinematic shot which they'll cut to every now and again which can be something like the school or a random apartment or anything. You'd think an anime with such mixed emotions and a weird way of connecting the episode together wouldn't really work but somehow it does. and it does it great.
Anyways I wanna finish off with the side characters. As I've already explained the main cast of characters is great and I love them. However, the show also has some really great side characters. they come in every now and again and sometimes will have nothing to do with the main characters or the rest of the show(actually most of the time) but they're each great with their own little personalities and each time they come on the screen you wanna root for them and whatever they're doing. I really like the use of side characters with the rest of the show.
Anyways I think that is about it. I know Nichijou isn't for some people. Usually, when it comes to Nichijou Everyone who watches it either just finds it kind of "mid" or you love it and worship it like it's the second coming of Jesus Christ himself(It's about a 50/50 split). You're either one or the other and there are zero in-betweens. But I still think everyone should try it and see if they like it. There are A LOT more things I could talk about that make Nichijou great but if I talked about all of them I'd be typing for hours and this review would be three times as long so I just talked about the big things I really liked about Nichijou. Anyways that's it. If you haven't tried it already please watch Nichijou and see for yourself if you like it.
