It took me 8 years to realize Kabaneri was an original show.
And that's when it clicked why this show was so godawful.
Original series either become classics (like Cowboy Bebop) or are absolutely abysmal wastes of time (like Aldnoah.Zero), because most anime screenwriters are seemingly unable to write good script without a reference made by a "professional". Very rarely you get something that could be considered just "OK" (like Eureka Seven), but most of the time original shows fall into the "abysmally bad" territory.
Kabaneri is one of those shows.
It starts off with the MC choking himself for a few minutes (?) to stop zombie virus from
...
possessing him (??) by preventing it from reaching his brain through his blood stream (???), then once the virus "settles down" (????) he slightly loosens the metal collar so he doesn't choke, but the virus doesn't progress anymore, despite the blood circulation to his brain being restored (?????) and from that point onward he can loosen his collar even more to access super powers for a time (??????), but as long as he tightens the collar back up he'll be perfectly fine again (???????).
A pseudo-intellectual pretentious piece of crap with not a single shred of logic pretending to be smart, something this show shares with the aforementioned Aldnoah.Zero. It's OK that you failed biology (or physics in case of Aldnoah.Zero) in middle school happens to the best of us, but there's no need to compensate for it when writing a script, ya know?
Well, that's just the first episode. The rest? Doesn't get any better and even fans of the show recognize it gets worse in the second half, so you can imagine how bad that must be.
