I always thought clannad after story was a 10/10 without thinking or even considering the different elements, but after careful consideration, I dropped the score to an 8.
Of course, personal preference is essential and yes I balled my eyes out and wasted boxes of tissues but the impact of the heavy storyline, and agonising feelings became repetitive and sometimes the rollercoaster went too high- it was a lot to take in, much more than season 1. The comedic relief was also less in this season.
Anything from Jun Maeda is almost always like this- Air, Kanon etc. What I like about Clannad After Story though is
...
that it taught me how to appreciate life from a stubborn, dull person's perspective. There are also family elements throughout the series that touches right back at home and I think it is easy to relate to for anyone who is watching.
The art from Key is always great, and I have to say the soundtrack is one of the most beautiful, and sometimes I just sit down and listen to all the tunes on a random day. The tunes tell you the story and they easily manipulate you to feel a certain way- it just clenches at the heart.
Clannad After Story is one of the first anime I've seen and I honestly don't regret anything at all- it was great.
