If you asked me last week what "Recently My Sister is Unusual" or "Saikin, Imouto no Yousu ga Chotto Okashiinda ga" was id say "it is a generic ecchi series about a step sister who was possesed by a ghost who happens to be in love with her brother" however i can no longer say that because this series, this thing i regarded as trash just made me feel something.
At first I was like all of you and thought "lmao this is shit" then unbeknownst to me and all my expectations they started pulling out lore things about their afterlife the reason why this

ghost needed to posses the sister, their shared past, and also who the "ghost" really was.
And I got hooked.
It felt like watching a horrific car accident that you can't look away from but through some miracle it avoided everything and the driver walked away from it.
My favorite part of this series other than the world is that the main character isn't the kinda generic older brother, while he is a major charecter the story largely follows the sister which is a nice change of pace.
This is like the first series of its kind (Oreimo, eromanga sensei, my sister my writer, etc.) that gave me an ending I didn't hate, that was well written and, that had an interesting world.
The reason my feelings are conflicted is that I will have to defend giving this an 8/10 for the rest of my life.
Critically its not an 8/10 even i can see that and it will fail close scrutiny as the story and lore elements are a bit too shallow and not fleshed out enough in the length we got but i appreciate that the author took a shot and ran with it thats something i can respect and im exited to read whatever he comes up with next so while its not a masterpiece its still an 8/10 in my heart.
