Guilty Crown's soundtrack and animation are very well done. The animations during the fight sequences are among the best I've seen and the music was enjoyable.
Sadly, I can not say the same about the story. The story is severely lacking in substance and is full of holes. A large portion of the premise is obviously ripped off from Code Geass - a high school student living in Japan is suddenly given "the power of the king" (yes, that's a word-for-word copy from Code Geass). The ending is rushed and confusing, leaving viewers wondering what exactly happened.
The main character, Shu, in Guilty Crown is annoyingly useless
...
- even with the Void Genome (the source of his powers). He is not only indecisive - he makes promises to people and then decides to go back on his word for no good reason. He is often manipulated by others and seems incapable of individual thought.
The likable side characters help make up for Shu's flaws. Inori, Gai, Ayase, and Tsugumi - the other main members of Funeral Parlor - are more reasonable and likable than Shu. Still, it is extremely annoying to see Shu ignore the advice of people who, unlike Shu, are not idiots and are trying to help him.
Overall, I thought this anime was fairly enjoyable - mainly because of the art and sound.
