This short introduction 3 part OVA is essentially the survival kit for the world of Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei.
The world of the magic high school is quite a blur for those who just jumps into the anime without background knowledge from reading either the Light Novel (LN) or read the manga previously. Those who did will know of the explanation of the world structure & magitek are mighty complex, which will make or break those who want to watch the series anime.
It's nice to now the company behind Mahouka do this extra little introduction (via moeified characters) doing some basic explanation vs. just leaving
...
them out (*cough*SAO*cough*) or making the main series drag by information overload.
I however, recommend only for those who haven't been introduced to the world of Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei beforehand. For the fellow LN or manga readers, feel free to jump right into the main series.

Imagine my surprise when I saw an article on a short ONA made by Productions IG when I was browsing through a car blog.
Seeing that a German company which used to only specialize in executive/expensive automobiles that used to only target customers in their 40s with a hefty salary, this commercial comes off to me as quite revolutionary as a car enthusiast/business student and awesome as an anime fan.
This was not the first time I've seen that anime has been used as a medium as advertising. This however was the first for a non-Japanese firm, and in terms of quality, the small details in a

6 minutes short really shows. I'd give credit to those who convinced the uptight Germans in Stuttgart to put funding into this.
Story: 5
Given it's 6 minutes running length, there isn't any particular story to speak of. It does play parody to the most famous Japanese car-related anime, so I will give credit for that.
Art: 9
The futuristic look of the 'moving city' with the lighting, the details of the characters are surprisingly good for such a short clip. The integrating of the A class (possibility A45 AMG?) with the 'Blue Wonder' noodle truck is done greatly. Water effects and lighting are used in great effect.
Sound: 7
The music really fits the mood well, if albeit constrained due to the length of the clip. The sfx for engine noise doesn't sound relative to the M159's throaty roar that is found in the hood of a IRL AMG V8...
Characters: 6
Nothing much to say here, but each are distinctive and fits well to the 'futuristic japan' theme that is going to play here.
Enjoyment: 10
What part of seeing a prototype/futuristic A45 AMG racing against a 1954 Blue Wonder truck fitted with a 6.2 M159 V8 lifted from a gull-wing SLS AMG in a moving city, drifting in narrow Japanese streets and getting air-time in the process just to get Ramen not sound cool?
Overall: 7
At the end of the day, this is still a manufacturer promotion campaign. For the already downward trend of Japan's auto industry, the indication to the manufacturers of this clip is showing that MB is now targeting the next generation of youngsters to drive European cars. Better start making more desirable cars, Honda and Toyota.
To the part anime-fan and part car-enthusiast like me out there who gets chills down his spine hearing a AMG V8 starting up, this is a really delicious, if a bit short, treat from MB of Japan.

This is probably the best series of 2011, period. It has been a while since the release of another great series that would be forever remembered as a classic.
Steins;Gate is a sci-fi genre anime which focuses on a group of college students living in Akihabara which stumbles onto a accidental discovery of a time machine. The plot then follows the 'Future Gadgets Laboratory' and how such discovery can be used to change the course of history, along with the venerable dangers that can occur from such actions.
Story: 10/10

bit of real-life references that are thrown into the mix; even I confess to using Google to look up certain terms, items and terminology to understand what they were.
The plot begins with a lot of ambiguity and confusion with a rather slow paced approach to the introduction of the main cast. However, as the plot thickens, you can definitely sense an air of unrest and it naturally draws you in with suspense.
The latter half then comes quite hard. I won't go too into details here to avoid spoiling, but this is one of the calling cards to why I call this the series to watch for 2011 season.
I also note the transition from light hearted comedy to dangerous suspense scenes are done exceptionally well, something I noted that is not done too well in the recent years of anime.
Art: 9/10
As my own sister quoted, Steins;Gate original art for the VN was unique that it used huke's art style, who previously done the work for Black Rock Shooter. The anime attempts to carry that unique style over as much as possible, but in effort to not raise the budget to eye-popping levels, a more solid color palette is chosen.
Each character design is unique and interesting without being over-styled. The art for the background of Akihabara is also a plus to those who often visit this anime haven.
Sound: 10/10
The music always fits the mood and is definitely composed well. The main theme and piano arrangement is something I still often listen to on my player today.
Again like the plot, the transition between pieces are something that's done well corresponding to the given situation.
Characters: 10/10
The main cast is probably the best part of Steins;Gate. Each character never feels cliche in any manner while retaining their unique personalities. Each character, even secondary characters (a rarity in anime these days) is also covered well in the story, so for the audience it becomes easy to relate and 'see' in the eyes of the cast.
Steins;Gate is made into a gem due to the great casting and voice acting which truly reflects the personalities of the characters. The interaction between the main cast is often golden without being overly obnoxious. Genius.
Enjoyment: 10/10

Overall: 10/10
I do rarely give out 10s in such a easy manner. However, Steins;Gate gets only the highest of praises for bring a series that incorporates such an innovative story with a intriguing, interesting yet lovable cast together in a complete package.
I do highly recommend anyone who has yet to watch this masterpiece, and better yet introduce this series to those who don't watch anime to give it a try.

This series is probably one of the most highly anticipated series of 2012, and for a good reason. Originally written as a Light Novel which has won many acclaims, it is definite a series worth a look.
Sword Art Online is a MMORPG/Adventure series about a futuristic virtual reality MMO turned into a death game by the game's mysterious creator. The series focuses on the main characters/players Kirito and Asuna as they fight through and experience the new virtual world with the rest of the trapped players in the game.
Story: 8/10
Oddly enough, this move of moving into the LN's side stories first (SS) may or may

not be a miss on fellow LN readers. This is due to the SS order which originally supposes the reader to have read the main series beforehand. However, the script writers have integrated the SS well to serve as the main plot's prequel, so that's understandable.
So for anyone who didn't read the LN, do not worry; you didn't miss a thing. As for the re-ordering of the SS first strategy, I personally didn't like the progression due to me reading the LN first. Hence 8/10.
Art: 8/10
The art style featured in SAO definitely has it's quirks; the fight scenes are smooth and the usage of color is done tastefully; giving the audience a sense of the danger of the unknown faced by the SAO players.
I also find myself enjoying the little details like the environment and backgrounds of SAO. The player's user interface is also a unique feature and is well thought out. The destruction animation of shattering glass gives a dramatic effect to the given scenarios.
The character designs...I think it is really up to the viewer's taste. They feel angular and fixated at times.
Characters: 6/10
Unfortunately here, compared to the LN is where the anime adaptation falls on it's face. Often I find myself feeling that the Kirito here feels noticeably different compared to the Kirito in the LN. The same can be said of Asuna. Since this is supposed to be an adaption of the LN as the plot and characters haven't changed; I can't help but feel the animators couldn't capture the magic of the original LN personalities.
Enjoyment: 8/10
Despite the nitpicks above; I do find myself drawn into the series; often wishing it updated faster than updating each Friday. It doesn't quite match the original time and excitement I spent on the LN, but that's like saying a roller coaster isn't as exciting as bungee jumping.
Overall: 8/10
A great series that magically draws you in to the world of SAO; even moreso for the fellow LN readers. A series you should definitely give a shot at. The beginning does come off slow; but do remember it is 24 episodes long and as of me writing this, we're only 1/2 way through.
Given the plot progression and assumption it will continue following the LN's plot; you're going to see some impressive things.
Also this concludes my first ever review on MyAnimeList. Sorry if the quality is sub-par.
