Deadman Wonderland is a weird and oddly entertaining seinen with a good story.

The manga offers a thrilling and fast-paced story with an intriguing premise. While the series falls short in terms of character development, it compensates with its well-structured plot and explanations for the events that unfold.

One aspect that stands out about Deadman Wonderland is its captivating storyline. Set in a twisted and dystopian world, the series follows the journey of Ganta Igarashi, a young boy who is wrongly accused of a heinous crime and sent to the nightmarish prison known as Deadman Wonderland. Within its walls, prisoners are forced to participate in brutal death ... games, while Ganta discovers that he possesses a unique power known as the Branches of Sin. The series successfully keeps viewers engaged with its constant stream of suspense, action, and unexpected twists.

However, one of the shortcomings of Deadman Wonderland lies in its character development. While the story introduces a diverse cast of characters, many of them lack depth and fail to undergo significant growth throughout the series. Although Ganta's journey as the protagonist is compelling, other characters often remain one-dimensional or underdeveloped, leaving viewers yearning for more substantial emotional connections.

On the positive side, Deadman Wonderland does an admirable job of providing explanations for the events that transpire. As the story progresses, crucial plot points and mysteries are gradually unraveled, giving viewers a sense of satisfaction and closure. The narrative delivers answers to questions that arise early on, showcasing a well-structured plot with a clear sense of direction.

The discussion then shifts to Fujimoto's work, which serves as a heartfelt tribute to creators, addressing their common struggles and combining them with captivating storytelling.

I cannot not read Fujimoto's work. ... Definitely recommended.

This story left me... kinda empty.

I watched the anime a few years before I decided to read the manga, since the anime never came back. At first, I thought it was because the anime didn't perform well so it was pointless to wait for another season but soon I came to realise that wasn't the case. The anime ends in a major cliffhanger, which usually means that revelations are to be made in the future.

5 years later I finally decided to see what that was all about and I couldn't be more frustrated. Since I didn't really remember anything about this show aside from the ... fact that the main character has a cursed child as his assistant with immense power and that they have to fight these monsters that threaten humanity, I decided to read it from the beginning. That was a mistake and also a good move. The anime doesn't end in a cliffhanger because they were expecting a 2nd season, it ends there because that's where the story ends. When I found out I was frustrated, not because The manga sucked, but because the story was good and interesting and for some reason ended up being canceled (at least that's what I think happened).

For those of you who want to read it, be aware that emptiness awaits you. As for me, I don't recommend this manga, although I liked reading it, it's not worth the time.

I'll try to make this review spoiler-free but I'll tag it with a "spoiler warning" just in case.

The story is interesting and well written with some plot twists along the way. The "die and go back in time" mechanic is not new at this point since we have shows like Re:Zero and other mangas as well, like Tales of Demons and Gods, for example. Even if that's the case, that mechanic is well implemented in this story, giving the readers a justification in the final chapters for why that happened. The main character's development is solid and some of his decisions are justified due to ... the nature of the episodes of the manga. He doesn't let despair get him and always comes up with a new plan to test and see if it works.

Although the ending could've been better and the story could have progressed a little more I think it's better to leave it as it is than risk ruining it.

With that said, it still is a good manga that I definitely recommend.

I'll be as direct as possible since this is my first review and I don't really know what I should write.

The story starts in a peculiar way and can grab the attention of most readers, specially if you're into shounen and yakuza styled manga. With that said, don't get your hopes too high because it's only 25 chapters, not nearly enough to finish a story with this kind of plot, making it have an open ending. The character development is average and a bit vague, making you don't care about what happens to who.

It's a shame it ended up being a disappointment since I ... was looking forward to reading it.
