Coming from someone who really likes horror but doesn't watch a lot of horror anime, I really did enjoy Another.
It has a really interesting story that had me hooked. It has enough gore and creepy elements to please the average horror fan while also avoiding cheap scare-pranks. The mystery is great and it kept me guessing throughout the entire anime. I'd recommend Another to any anime watcher I know as I think it has a great story worth anyone's time.
