This is my first review so might not be perfect but I hope it is helpful :P.
From the out set I would like to say how much I enjoyed this anime and how sad I am having finished it, since it is getting harder to find top quality anime nowadays. It is one of the most unique animes that I have ever seen even though everything about it seems to contain aspects that are so typically anime in its fantastical nature but not falling into any of the traps and tropes that are common and tend to cheapen anime. Even though this is mainly an
...
Action anime every other other aspect supports it well, especially the comedy.
Story 9:
Since I don't want to give anything away there will be no spoilers what so ever. Even though some the twists left me with my jaw on the flaw in surprise and I couldn't predict any of the major plot twists, it did feel quite standard occasionally in the way that it felt familiar and the littlest bit predictable. because of that little niggling fact (even though i want to) I didn't give it the full marks but a 9 instead
Art 10:
I think anyone who has watched this has to agree the quality of the animation was outstanding and deserves the full 10. The fight scenes (major part of the anime) were unbelievable, dynamic and never boring. The art work in all other manners, character expression, scenery and most importantly clothing were top notch and suited the light-hearted nature of the anime.
Sound 8:
The fight-scene music was epic and set the mood perfectly but wasn't extremely memorable in any way. The opening and ending themes were enjoyable and I would recommend watching through each at least once or twice since they definitely added some indescribable satisfaction but that's only my opinion. since it was good but not the best I have ever seen I've given it an 8.
Character 10:
For me the characters were the driving force behind the anime not the fight scenes since that was what I came back for every episode. most of the major characters are fleshed out in one way or another to a satisfactory extent, although at first some of them seem one dimensional i assure you that there is further depth. The small conversations before and after fights for me seemed to me like the funniest and most entertaining parts. I felt overall it was very well balanced with Ryoku and Satsuki playing the serious characters and others (mostly Mako) filling in the comic relieve, but even then neither was soully one or the other again showing the depth.
Enjoyment 10:
Something I have only mentioned in passing but which is really important is how funny it really was, with every character chipping in every now and again to create something funny continuously, with the very concept of it being laughable. The fan service was substantial to say the least, since being naked was a key point the plot at times, but it didn't feel cheap and shoehorned in at all.
Overall: since everything I have said has been overwhelmingly positive anything but a 10 would be unsatisfactory.
I do want to quickly mention the special episode. It was by no means terrible but wasn't a necessity to watch. Ironically I thought that the action was rather forced in order to give us a little more time with the characters, which doesn't often happen, but after some thought I've decided that I'm glad i watched it because it's only 30 mins and gave me a bit of closure, which is key during post anime depression.
Thank you for reading
