Eternal Boys Next Stage
(Anime)
add
Went to the theatre to see it opening day. There were 3 other people at the screening but it was a Friday afternoon so most people probably have work. The movie is broken into 3 full-length, not half-length episodes. Without spoiling too much, a couple of the boys get bit parts in a made-for-TV movie, there's a classic sports festival episode, and of course a new song where the boys dress up in the glamorous outfits you can see in the promo art. It was pure comedy and it didn't take itself seriously for a second, but it was pretty funny and sweet as ever.

Eternal Boys
(Anime)
add
Eternal Boys is a really nice SOL idol anime whose message is "anyone can shine" with subtle comedy, lots of feel-good vibes, and a fair amount of realistic, mature drama that a lot of not-young-adults can probably relate to in some way. It uses the 13-minute format well with succinct episode plots. When not focusing on their trials and tribulations as a new idol unit or daily lives together, each member of Eternal Boys gets their own focus episode telling their backstory of what they were doing before they became ossan-idols. All of the members are 35-45-year-old men with no prior idol experience. There's

Sasaki to Miyano
(Anime)
add
I feel like it's a really average school romance/SOL anime that's easy to follow and fairly entertaining so it's good to watch when you want to relax. I think the high rating has to be just because of the BL factor, maybe especially because it's more 'wholesome' than the typical BL. Although truthfully BL has evolved to the point that there's no shortage of wholesome romcoms, I suppose it's still relatively few BL manga that get adapted into anime. On the other hand, nothing about Sasaki to Miyano really stands out as a school romance for me, whether it be the characters, the story, or

Ai no Utagoe wo Kikasete
(Anime)
add
It's got everything that makes anime fun and exciting to watch. Zany robots, Disney musical numbers, Shipping, big reveals, emotional reunions, princesses, evil scientists who don't understand the Power of Love, a group of plucky teens and also the main girl's Mom fighting against authority to save their friend. The art isn't the best ever, but they do some really cool big, flashy, eye-catching scenes with Shion using her powers to control all the nearby electronic devices. There are a couple of touching Power of Friendship moments that would have made me cry if I were a weaker woman. I genuinely enjoyed the cheesy musical

Misaki no Mayoiga
(Anime)
add
I am so happy I never saw the trailer and the MAL description for this movie before it was released was completely wrong (it seems like it was based on the book which I haven't read yet and the movie changed things) because I got to go in blind. I was expecting a moving drama about 3 females of varying ages trying to find refuge from their traumatic backstories together that would make me cry. I got magical realism about a kind witch (not actually a witch but close enough) who adopts an orphan who lost her voice and a teenager who ran away

Yuugai Shitei Doukyuusei
(Manga)
add
It's an ecchi/comedy manga that, like most ecchi manga, toes the line of going too far without becoming an Adult manga, but unlike most ecchi mangas, it's less fanservice and more outrageous sex/masturbation jokes. The comedy comes from just how big of a pervert with no common sense Miyanokojou is and the ridiculous situations she drags her straight-laced best friend Miyako into. Who is also the only person who will put up with her shenanigans, mostly out of a really strong sense of not only morals and human decency but compassion, not wanting Miyanokojou's stupidity and sex drive to cause her to do something she

Ryuu to Sobakasu no Hime
(Anime)
add
Disclaimer that I am conversational-but-not-fluent so there were parts I didn't understand. That being said I also didn't entirely get what was going on in Summer Wars even with English subs and this is very much Same Energy. Anyway maybe it would help if I saw it again, but I found the story difficult to follow. It cuts between scenes really abruptly at times and things just seem to happen without a whole lot of buildup (Belle's fame and her/Suzu's relationships to Ryuu and other characters for instance). Also what are the mods doing? People are just getting doxxed left and right and no one

Mairimashita! Iruma-kun
(Anime)
add
I usually don't gravitate towards Isekai or Shounen anime - in fact, I try to avoid them like a person handing out religious pamphlets! But this anime, which from the first episode I thought was Excessively Shounen (and kind of retro) ended up becoming one of my favorite anime of all time and my number one favorite manga! Every episode made me smile like nothing else due to the show's charm and comedy, and the sweetness of the charismatic and kind main character being able to befriend everybody in the Netherworld. Nobody can hate him for long, not even rivals or villains or grouchy teachers

Net-juu no Susume
(Anime)
add
It's been a couple years, and this is still my favorite romance anime - nay, my favorite love story of all time. I was hooked from the description because of the whole implied "two-person love triangle, in love with each other's alter ego, not realizing they were someone you knew all along with a dash of gender bender" plot, but the anime is so much more than that. I feel like I can really relate to the main character, Moriko's struggles as a lonely 30-year-old who's done nothing with her life but worked a menial job for a humdrum corporation and decides to screw her

Wakaokami wa Shougakusei! Movie
(Anime)
add
I watched and enjoyed the television series before watching the movie, which may or may not be rare. When I walked into the theatre, I was actually the only person there AND I was 5 or 6 minutes late, both of which are a real shame, until a small group of people walked in at least 25 minutes late. Anyway, the first half of the film was amazing, leaps and bounds over the television series which, in my opinion, was already good. I did enjoy how far the film went into Okko's depression and even serious PTSD over her parents' death, which the series kind
