I've been watching anime more seriously than just catching stuff weekly Toonami since about early 2006. And of course I watched plenty of Toonami after school and on Saturday nights before then, but I haven't bothered to include pretty much any of that here.
I kind of use the "school grade" system, since I think most works of art do have some sort of value and the effort of the artists should be respected in most cases. I can generally find some redeeming elements in just about anything I watch. My lists are pretty much just for personal tracking and leaving myself some notes on stuff.
Ratings System:
10: Personal favs.
9: Fantastic storytelling and presentation. Series that showcase what the medium is truly capable of.
8: Very good series, zero hesitation recommending to someone and will rewatch at some point.
7: Competent series, worth watching at least once. The stories aren't as good as something I'd rate an 8, but I wouldn't call them bad. I might rewatch some of these if I really enjoyed something about it but otherwise couldn't give it an 8.
6: It's...fine. Probably not worth revisiting, but some stuff gets a 6 from me but I appreciate the effort or what it was trying to go for. Usually whatever story is being told was not convincing or captivating (or it was otherwise too limited), it relied too heavily on tropes, or there are severe problems with the animation.
5: There are serious problems with the series in question across the board.
4 and lower: The show flat-out sucks. Usually it's a really bad story or terrible animation. It takes a lot to get me to rate something this low.
I usually consider series as a whole, not by individual season (especially those whose stories carry through multiple seasons), though I do make exceptions in my ratings. I usually leave some mini-reviews/thoughts/comments on a series under "more" within my list if for some reason you wind up here and want to see what I think about something. But seriously, who's even going to be reading this thing?
