Good things I have to say about Hanebado:
-It was beautifully animated.
-It brought attention to a sport that doesn't get a lot of attention.
-Gave us a show about female athletes without making it entirely about fanservice.
Everything else was generally not good or just not enjoyable for me to watch. I went into this thinking I was going to absolutely love it. I was so ready to fall in love with these characters. After seeing how high this is on MAL and how much everyone seems to like it, I expected myself to really enjoy this and was left disappointed.
I found the idea behind the story to be really interesting and a great opportunity for a compelling and moving story, the execution just fell flat. The story itself was a bit disjointed, with what felt like unnecessary additions in order to keep the pace and relationships moving. I would not advise anyone to watch this show.
What originally drew me in to watching this show was the description and the tags. I'm a sucker for anything vampire, and I'll watch pretty much anything tagged vampire even if people think it's the worst. This show is a perfect example as to why a lot of people think vampire based shows and movies suck (heh). I highly recommend giving this anime a try, though it's best to give it a few episodes as the pacing in the beginning can be off putting at first.
I found myself surprised by how much I enjoyed this anime. Normally I don't really like the Sci-Fi genre, but I didn't feel weighed down with this show like I normally would. The application of science to fantasy elements was balanced and important, but none of the main characters are the scientists trying to do so.
