*note* This is my opinion based on a single episode. If you love this anime, please go ahead and write a review explaining why. I'm simply trying to save some people the trouble of watching something that they won't enjoy. Just voicing my personal opinion. Also, check our anime compatability before jumping to any conclusions. If I get anymore unfounded derogatory comments or messages, I will be reporting them. However, if you would like to convince me otherwise in an explanatory manner, feel free to reply.
It had been a long time since I had seen a true sci-fi ship-toting anime, so I decided to give
...
this one a try. I actually had to stop at one episode, simply because I was laughing at it so hard it hurt to watch any more. I have a small attention span (I have dropped a good half of the animes I have ever seen), but this is the one that was so below my expectations that I gave it a 1.
Story: 1
This is simply because it was so much of an anti-parody that it made me burst in to tears and laughter simultaneously. It reminded me of the episode of Suzumiya Haruhi when they were playing the Computer Club's "Day of The Sagittarius III". It seemed almost as if they were doing an anti-parody of the genre, but just made the parodies that much more funny.
On a more direct note, the story itself seemed convoluted and full of so many cliched plots that it was a simple front for pretty boys aimlessly attacking each other. Essentially, there is a mega-empire that is planning on taking over all of the universe. Enter the small little courageous planet that beats the odds and manages to fight back against the big bad empire. I'm assuming it continues with a multitude of long and drawn out battles... There was a 'political intruge' side of things that some fans might enjoy, but it wasn't for me, !based on the obvious protagonist/antagonist relationships! (the exclamations marks frame my edit on 12/6/08)
Art: 8
The art is very beautiful- one thing I thought it was lacking was a uniqueness in colour scheme, character design, or facial structure, but seriously, gorgeous. Generic art done to perfection.
Sound: 7
It fits the story and art- very generic epic, but well chosen in its own way.
Character: 1?
The reactions of the mega-empire to the resistance were so ridiculous and generic that I couldn't handle it. Half the characters = pompous mega-empire, the other half = insurgent resistance. Wasn't really much of a unique character in the bunch from what I could tell. This is probably where this anime fell short to the extreme, but also where watching long-term would give a better look into this. Hence the question mark.
Enjoyment: 1
Kind of obvious by the above. I don't really believe laughing AT something would be truly considered enjoyment.
Overall: 1
I think I have stated my case for this one.
