Ahhh Konosuba, an anime that many people like myself went in with little to no expectations (doesn't help when it's by DEEN). And oh boy what a surprise it was.
Story (7/10):
About Konosuba's story, there wasn't really one. Many have come to expect a MMORPG setting with similar stories and tones like SAO, Log Horizon, Overlord, Danmachi etc. However, Konosuba is more of a SOL parody with the MMORPG setting with more focus on the comedy aspect. The story is being told in an episodic manner with the group dealing with MMORPG issues like recruitment, money management and of course the quests. Except being a parody,

they are not your typical MMORPG issues you would expect, and for the better good from a comedic standpoint. That said, despite me liking the SOL parody setting and the comedy, the story is not one of its main selling points.
Art (6/10):
Studio DEEN is notorious for having terrible art and animation. Hence, expectations were not high going into this anime. Luckily they stepped it up this season. The art style isn't noticeably special, but appealing to a relaxing, comfy and funny anime like Konosuba. The explosions by Megumin however look neat. The animation is decently fluid, although there isn't a huge amount of movements. The brighter colors are also a plus as it fits the lighter tones of the show. The character designs are decent, not bizarre but also not lazy with some details on their outfits. One important thing to note is how freaking silly their reaction faces are, in a good way. Overall, I have little complains regarding the art and animation as a whole, despite some questionable shots. At least DEEN didn't pull a...DEEN.
Sound (7/10):
The voice actors suits the characters as you would expect from looking at the character designs. The voices are still great considering some of them aren't even that experienced as a voice actor. The background music fits the story and atmosphere well albeit not amazing. There are no noticeable tracks that really captured my attention which is slightly disappointing considering the music composer is known for his works in the Monster Hunter series.
The opening and ending songs on the other hand, are excellent. The opening is upbeat and cheerful which perfectly matches the tone of the show. However, what I really want to talk about is the ending theme. I might be bias as I love theme songs which are sung by the voice actors of the MCs, but the ending theme is stupendous. It is really comfy and relaxing and surprisingly fits the show well. It gives off a homey feel after a crazy absurd episode of Konosuba.
Characters (10/10):
The characters are by far the main reason why this show is good. I'm going to first talk about the main cast, Satou, Megumin, Aqua and Darkness. In terms of their power level, they have huge flaws but huge strengths. Like being able to tank tons of damage but unable to land a single hit. The show makes uses of said flaws and strength for comedic purposes and it is executed well. For their personalities, the male MC, is by far one of the best MCs for a show like this. He is a dick, in a good way. He is straightforward and not afraid to call out the stupid things the girls in the group are doing and trolls people for his own enjoyment. At the end of the day however, he still meant well for the girls and can be sensible at times. The personalities of the girls are pleasantly surprising for their designs, which of course adds to the humor of the show. They are not normal, and being out of the norm is what a show like this needs. Some might argue that the group gets too close and bond to each other way too fast, but I feel that it is perfectly fine due to episode restrictions.
The side characters are not that interesting and are forgettable which is not a big problem considering the little impact they have on the show. The villains, well, there aren't really any villains. Other than monsters they fight, the 'villains' are just annoying to the main cast and nothing more. Overall, despite the main cast having barely any character development, it is not necessary for a show like Konosuba, where people like me just watch the show for the characters usual antics.
Enjoyment (10/10):
The comedy of this anime is simply fantastic. And is something I really look forward to every week for my weekly laughs after a long day of school. I love comedy anime and in fact more than half of all the anime I've watched has comedy in them, be it main or subplot. Konosuba takes the title of one of the very few anime that made me laughed out loud.
Overall (8/10):
For me, Konosuba is without a doubt the 2nd best anime of Winter 2016, closely behind ERASED. And that is saying something considering the great story, characters and cinematography ERASED has.
I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys comedy and have watched at least 1 or 2 of those MMORPG anime. Comedy is however, subjective, so unfortunately the anime might be a hit or miss.
With that said, you can definitely count on Konosuba to ruin an emotional or epic scene with something ridiculous.
