A forced relationship between two people who don't seem to get along is the same setting for both shows. While Saito and Akane are coerced into marriage by their families in KuraKon, Raku and Chitoge are compelled to pose as a couple in Nisekoi in order to avoid a gang war. If you're searching for a light-hearted rom-com with endearing characters and plenty of laughter, Nisekoi is the clear victor. It isn't flawless (the love triangle might be difficult), but it knows how to keep you interested. KuraKon, on the other hand, may appeal to people who appreciate a combination of heavy drama and romance, but only if you're ready to overlook its shortcomings. For me, it was a frustrating watch because it had so much potential yet failed to deliver on its promise. What's the difference? Nisekoi relies mainly on a comic and light-hearted tone, whereas KuraKon attempts to blend comedy with more serious drama. Personally, I believe Nisekoi handles the subject better since it is clear what it wants to be: a joyful, over-the-top rom-com. KuraKon, on the other hand, struggles to find its identity, alternating between ludicrous drama and awkward humour. Do I recommend both? Yes, but for very different reasons. Nisekoi is a light-hearted and easygoing show, while KuraKon offers a more tragic twist on the "forced relationship" concept. Simply don't expect it to blow your head!
