Guilty Crown (from here on GC) is a satire of the U.N.'s actions after WWII (GHQ), the development and use of the atomic bomb (the Apocalypse virus), fighting and killing in general (Funeral Parlor, Gai), as well as various societal ills. It's also a coming-of-age and love story that may only be somewhat unique but is so, so heartwarming and hopeful (largely due to the amazing dialogue, voice acting, music, and art). Anything can be criticized, but GC is one of the rare, stand-out anime that leaves its mark if watched with an open mind.
Story: As with any short series, one can hardly expect an

exceptionally intricate and fluid storyline. While GC's story is believable and interesting enough, it's not top-notch. But the story isn't the main focus, so it passes.
Art: Great, great art. Please don't even consider watching under 720p. As an additional note here, the animations are done pretty well.
Sound: This is what makes everything fit together. The voice actors and music are among the best I've ever heard and the music is inserted perfectly. I high recommend using quality, noise-cancelling headphones and making sure you aren't disturbed while watching; GC will draw you in completely. Ambient sounds and sound effects are very well done as well.
Characters: Realistic, believable characters - especially the main character (Shu). Everyone that appears has at least a small role in the plot and is memorable and easy to distinguish, which attests to the quality character design. Side note: Inori #1
Enjoyment: As I mentioned above, this anime is very enjoyable and takes you into its own world. While it features mostly darker, heavier themes (though perhaps not every aspect is easily seen), GC is undoubtedly entertaining.
Overall: Critics be damned. This is a beautifully made gem with a fittingly rare message. Special shoutout to the talents behind the screenplay and music.
