I'm a "Project Sekai: Colorful Stage" player, I know the lore, the characters, the plot... but I still can't rate this higher, this has too many problems...
- They give 0 explanation of who these characters are, or what a "Sekai" even is, absolutely 0! And that sucks because it's a fkng Miku movie that they even dare to release worldwide, there is no way they didn't think people that has never even heard about the game was going to see it because of Miku and nothing more. As I said I play the game so for me it was not a problem, but the friend
...
that went to see it with me had no idea about anything, and many, many people in the theater were in the same situation... ... there is a random cat in the movie, he isn't important at all but Saki likes him, he appears 3 times in the movie, they waste around 6 minutes with him in total, I know it's not much but they could have used that time to do a little 1-minute introduction for each band or something...
- They do the same thing over and over again, "Miku does X thing with X group", then "Miku does the same X thing, but with other group", repeat that for each of the 5 groups. After that, "Miku does a different X thing with X group", then "Miku does the same X thing, but with other group", repeat that again and again... it's a loop of the same stuff over and over again...
- This is another case of "a movie that shouldn't be a movie", I swear, this is almost 2 hours long, when it could perfectly be 1 hour, they should have done a 60min OVA, or 2 30min OVAS, there was no need at all for this to be a damn movie, I swear to God! And it's mostly the fault of what I said in my previous point, they repeat the same shit over and over again, so unnecesary and time wasting, the pacing sucks.
- The movie takes itself way too seriously for it's own good, to the point of being annoying, there is absolutely nothing funny in it, Tsukasa does a couple of things here and there that can make u laugh for like a second but other than that there is literally nothing.
- During the entire movie you have the feeling "oh, so many NPCs, they surely will form a new group with some of them and present it at the end to add them to the game later", but not, not even that is accomplished. In the post-credits scene we do see that, the new Miku greets someone, welcoming him to her sekai, but we don't see who he is, it just cuts to black, so yeah, we get fucking nothing. Games like Bandori have done stuff like this to add new groups to the game, I don't understand why the did the same here but then didn't do anything after.
- The NPCs, oh god the NPCs... annoying as fuck, I get it, they are people having a bad time, that's fine, one can understand them because is normal for us humans to be in a sad and bad mood when something doesn't go our way... but when you show me a fucking schoolgirl telling her little sister to shut the fuck up in a really violent way because she went to her room to give her food, but she "has no time to eat because she must study!!!", oooh no how terrible! And then she proceeds to throw her phone to the wall breaking it because Miku tried to talk to her and she got annoyed over fucking nothing, no bro, fuck this girl, fuck these NPCs, they are all like that, like that one other dude that has a mental breakdown over the phone because a friend asked him how he was, overreacting bitches.
- This movie has so. many. fucking. cringe. ass. moments. it's insane, holy fuck, if you think the game is cringe at times, this is 100 times worst. You have characters over reacting over nothing, talking way too much about nothing, screaming over nothing and out of nowhere, I expected cringe but this is a fucking mess.
- The title is a lie, the new Miku can sing, she even says that at the begining, people don't hear her because they are all "broken inside", but it's not like she can't sing. And oh boy this Miku sings, the same damn song every fucking time, I heard her sing "Kito..." like 300 times in this movie, damn, Miku please shut the fuck up already lol
- The animation is the exact same quality as the one from the game's original MVs, so if you know how those look, you can have and idea on how bad this looks. When I go see an animated movie, an "anime" movie, even if the anime has an average animation, the movie tends to look waaaay better, because they had to put more money into it for obvious reasons... but that's not the case here, the movie doesn't look awfull or anything, it just looks bad, it looks like any other cheap anime, one of those that come out every season, you watch 1 episode and go "yeah, this was made on a budget", THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A MIKU MOVIE ABOUT ONE OF THE MOST SUCCESFULL GACHA GAMES FROM THE PAST YEARS, C'MON!!!
Honestly, there were only 3 good scenes in the whole movie:
- When each group sings their new songs, because of course that was going to be good, it's a movie about music, from a music game.
- When every Sekai is destroyed, we see Miku fucking die in each one, that was crazy, SHE FUCKING DIED 6 TIMES, DAMN.
- After Miku's death, there is a scene in the Empty Sekai where Meiko is sitting on the floor, sad, and says: "Miku was enveloped by darkness...", damn, that's a line I thought I would never ever heard in my life, deep shit man lmao (I laughted like crazy... you know what? THAT'S a funny scene!).
There is so much more I would like to say, but english isn't my primary language, and honestly the movie is so lame, so boring, so average it isn't worth it. It fails both as a Miku movie (because it is NOT a full-on Miku movie), and as a Project Sekai movie (because is NOT fun for fans to watch, the plot sucks, and the characters all do the same shit, this could've been a movie about 1 single group and it would be the same!).
I'll end with this, and no, I'm not joking, I'm not trolling... last week I saw the Minecraft movie... that shit was a billion times more enjoyable to watch than this, and I don't even like Minecraft!!! (but I do like Project Sekai and Miku, how funny...).
5/10 - Like I saw someone say in another review: Midku

Watched the 1st movie on cinemas when it released, then wasn't able to go see this one, so I finally decided to give it a try.
I don't read novels so I don't compare it to anything but the anime itself, and I must say the Progressive project is way, way, WAY better than the anime, or should I say original SAO? Asuna as the main focus is great, she is great in this, never been a big fan of her, something about her never really clicked with me, but these movies have finally made me like her. About Kirito, he is shit in the anime, he and ... Sep 18, 2024

I had a great time following the meme, the "SHIKANOKO IS ABSOLUTE CINEMA" meme mindset, but in all honesty, this is a hard 7/10 for me, because most of the jokes aren't funny, and that's a problem, I'm not saying that this show wasn't fun, but that there are many, many times were it's comedy just doesn't click (like for example the entirety of ep2 that to this day I'm trying to forget).
As a short example, episode 12 proves it: it abruptly ends, with a bad joke, the 1st half was literally repeating the same joke over and over, gets old, and the FUNNY ... Dec 25, 2023

*This is my 1st review, I don't really care about posting complex reviews of things, but I feel I need to post this one on defense of such a great show.*
Just finished this, had it on my backlog for years and finally gave it a chance. It is so good, soo crazy good. Panty jokes aside, I loved everything, the animation, characters, plot, it is just so fun and interesting, there are many parts were it can get convoluted and confusing, but it all comes together extremely well. The many action scenes it surprisingly have are excelent. The 2 mayor plot twists are hinted at since the very begining, ... |
