Ah yes, "Groundhog Day" the anime.
Re:Zero is one of those anime that I really can't commend enough. With so many Isekai anime these days featuring an OP'ed main character and the typical harem BS, Re;Zero stays away from these overused tropes. The main character, Natsuki Subaru, is literally just your run-of-the-mill teenager in both personality and physical appearance. There is nothing exceptionally unique about him besides the fact that he's slightly athletic. Even when he's transported to Lugunica he doesn't quickly "level up" and become ridiculously powerful (looking at you Kirito) to the point where it's almost laughable at how easily he can dispatch foes,
...
nor does he ever get surrounded by harem waifu bait which doesn't do anything to further the story or character development by any means other than to be eye candy and provide unnecessary fanservice.
Subaru, however, does posses a rather interesting ability which allows him to reset events and start at a certain checkpoint when he is killed, ultimately making him "immortal". I won't dive too much into it for spoiler reasons, but this element of the story is extremely perplexing. Of course, like any other person being transported into a completely different world, Subaru is completely lost and clueless just about every aspect of Lugunica, Without Emilia's help in the beginning, who knows if he would've ever been able to make his own way. Watching him die over and over and over again and slowly descend into madness since he can't explain his situation to anybody else (spoilers) is really heartbreaking to watch, and really makes you sympathize with him.
Overall, Re:Zero is a MUST for anybody who is a fantasy/isekai fan. I can't really find anything I disliked about the anime besides Subaru being a little cringey during some scenes. But it's to be expected of a young teenage male.
Compared to other series, Re:Zero really has set a new standard in terms of Isekai's and storytelling. Kenichiro Suehiro has delivered another masterpiece with the soundtrack as well which amplifies the atmosphere and emotions flawlessly.
Because of the amazing development and fleshing out of every character (even the side characters), the perfect accompanying soundtrack, an extremely relatable MC, and just the right amount of fanservice, wrapped up with beautiful art design, this is why Re:Zero has earned it's perfect score from me.
