So before I wanted to watch this, I read through a lot of reviews, and they made me feel like I shouldn't. So here is my first advice, please give it a chance, especially if you don't know what you want to watch right now.
With that out of the way, I wanted to point out this is not the best anime out there, and I almost always called it weird after episodes, and whenever my friend is asking me what I'm watching, I'll say that weird anime. BUT, that doesn't mean I wasn't enjoying the weird anime. In general it was really sweet and well
...
thought. I like the way you get to know a bit of all the characters, you really also start knowing what kind of people you like or you're drawn for. The main character is really weird in a really cool way, she's sweet, and considerate in a genuine way. You do realize watching this that she still has a lot of growing up to do, but why should she do it now? She's just a high school student who really likes anime.
So if you have the time, and don't know what to watch next and think this is interesting, give it a try! It's more worth it than a lot of people say it is.

I don't usually write bad reviews, or maybe I do. Who knows? But the bottom line of this review is DO NOT WATCH THIS. I mean watch it, just don't expect much of it if anything at all. I finished it in a day in hopes that SOMETHING might happen that would change my mind, until the last episode everything this anime did badly it did worse over and over again.
So the story had great potential, the concept in theory had so much potential, but alas, it didn't deliver at all. They wanted to be a mystery anime, but they didn't know how to keep
...
the actual story balanced through out that. None of the side characters had a solid past, or even a solid character, they were just... there. Not introducing the bad guy until the last few episodes was a major flop as well, and well, since other characters lacked depth (this one did too), the reason the bad guy is a bad guy is because SHE ALWAYS WAS A MONSTER..... I'll leave it there.
Also, the main character was just annoying. They wanted to go for, weak, cute, stubborn, and everything that might be attractive in a girl to so many people and they were like, here we go, a main character, and oh, don't forget she's smart, which they show by her talking the whole anime! I'm not kidding, me and my boyfriend have a running joke that we watched an anime where she just talked. Nothing was charming about her, and like everyone else she didn't grow, or have a past or reasoning, they don't tell you why she chose to be the goddess of wisdom, and why she is so wise even. We know absolutely nothing about her, and we're supposed to connect to her? And I understand that might happen in a mystery setting, but they had the time, and the means to explore the characters more.
Other than that, the art was nice, so if you would like to explore it for that have a nice time!

First of all I have to admit the movie ended before I even knew it, so enjoyment wise, it got me hooked and by the time the conclusion came I was shocked it's over. I highly recommend to watch this if you feel like exploring new storytelling ways, it might not be one of it's kind, but it's rare to run into such movies where even though it's slow paced, it fools you through and through. I'm trying my best not to ruin the plot twist because when you watch it you'll know it's one of the best plot twists out there story wise.
Although the
...
story is compelling the characters seem lacking a bit, that's probably one of the reasons I felt like there has to be more to the story because I could count a dozen of times where there was more story to explore. The art is nothing special even though there are some pretty scenes, but in general they played it safe in that regard, even though some of the environments are really reflective of the characters and the tone of the story which I liked.
This might be one of the first reviews I write that I don't touch the story in, as in write a summary or hint at characters because this movie is best experienced going in knowing nothing. So, overall, I highly recommend you watch this if you're feeling like you don't know what to watch now, it'll captivate you in a weird way, and it's a good weird way, you'll leave feeling you need more, but you'll be grateful you got introduced to the world of HAL.

My first time writing a review, and that tells you how much this anime meant to me. It's just amazing!
When I started watching it I was down, and really tired from work and life, and I won't be exaggerating if I said this anime helped me through it! Not many shows put you in a lighter mood right away, and Non Non Biyori managed to do that every episode! I would automatically relax, and prepare myself to smile for 23 minutes and 40 seconds. It became a habit of me watching every second of that show, and it's the first time I didn't skip the
...
starting and ending theme, who would skip such cuteness?
The characters in the anime were all such unique and pure characters you'd never get sick of them, you'd want to watch each one of them more, and at one point, they all become your childhood best friends. And the character design is spot on! I guarantee you'll end up falling in love with every single character. Not to mention that the little side stories are to live for!
When it come to the art style, you won't believe how magical a still image could look like until you watch this. I wished to live in the country more times than not watching this anime and looking at all the beautiful scenery. And of course the sounds are spot on, I live in a more of rural area, and whenever I heard the birds in the background, I thought I'm listening to the birds outside my windows, they were just perfect.
So, if you ever want to just relax, smile like crazy, and just feel like the world could be an amazingly beautiful place. Or if you're just feeling down, and need a gentle hug, watch this anime, and you wouldn't be disappointed. I'm just happy there is a second season, because honestly when this one ended it felt like I was saying goodbye to my childhood friends and memories.
