Well, Machine-Doll wa kizutsukanai is definitely a well rounded anime.
Its got bits and pieces of action, romance, ecchi, mystery, fantasy and so on. A great wide range anime with wonderful graphics that involves some 3D models during action scenes.
The downside is that it's not focused enough. If one were to watch this for purely action content then they would be disappointed. It doesn't have a specific genre to lean on.
Putting that aside, the anime starts off in the early 20th century, where the main character Raishin sets off to a new academy in order to revenge his clan's death.
