B is for bouncing
O is for "out there"
O is for outlandish
B is for bosoms
S is for "seriously?"
Boobs. Bothered yet? Boobies, melons, bosoms, fun-bags, playthings, tits, breasts. Still not bothered? Well, you have passed the "Kanokon" test, my friend. Welcome to a magical anime, filled with boobs, boobs, and, yet, more boobs.
The way the story begins sets the tone for the rest of the story. Not in the way that they continue to develop it, more like they let you know that it's there, basically causing all the drama in the series, but let "mini-arcs", spanning an episode or two, act as the story for
...
the show.
As you could imagine - it's predictable. And, oddly enough, it was a nice predictable. I was never, EVER, bored watching "Kanokon" and I don't think you should be either. Unless you didn't pass my Kanokon test.
To me, it's not really a harem as much as it is a borderline hentai/rom/com. There's one other girl, but she seems like a third-wheel. You know from the get-go that she won't win our hero's heart and the other, more "main" heroine will likely come out on top. However, each mini-arc is enough to keep me entertained, and the base arc of her being a fox deity keeps up the quickfire pace (as it should be) of this 12-episode-long anime. 7/10.
The art, well... it acted like a double-edged sword. On the one hand, you have fabulously drawn characters and their movements are captured flawlessly. On the other hand, you have a hero who acts and looks like he could be a 10-year-old girl. I don't want my hero who's involved in a HAREM to be a 10-year-old girl. Coy and shy is okay to an extent, but when you put his animated character and personality together you really get an immature hero that's hard to root for, hard to identify with, and too childish. 6/10.
Sound is sound. I found this anime's sound to be a nice, refreshing change of pace from the constant yelling in "Seto no Hayame". The voice actors are good; that ten-year-old girl lookalike hero just bugged the hell out of me and his voice definitely matched his small presence and stature. 7/10.
Like I've stated above, I had a big problem with our hero being the hero. That said, the rest of the cast was good and solid. I wished that I would've seen a little more of the wolf deity woman (the name slips my mind at the moment) and that her involvement with the main character was more substantial. The supporting cast is variously funny and witty dialog is interjected here-and-there by the likes; a solid batch of characters.
You know, I enjoyed this anime a lot more than I thought I would. Coming into this I knew I was going to be bombarded with hentai-esque images and ecchi moments everywhere, but that really gave the show its own, specific, identity. "I am 'basically a soft-core porn show and so what?'"
If the anime that I watch has comes to terms with what it IS, instead of catering to something that it is NOT, I will enjoy it much more thoroughly than an anime that seems to be "faking". (Pun intended.) 8/10.
Overall, I think the 1-10 options and word classifcations pretty much nail this one of the head: "Good". Nothing spectacular, nothing revolutionary. Just some good ol' ecchi/harem/rom/com fun that's a fun time to watch and let your mind drift elsewhere - probably under the chair. 7/10.

I can summarize this entire anime in one short phrase: AHHHHHHH!
I kid you not, the show cannot go hardly a minute without an interjection or over-the-top exclamation. I seriously had a hard time getting into this mainly for that reason. Even though it was a rom/com/harem anime, a genre which I generally enjoy, this, however, I really had to fight to stay interested.
The overall story's main arc is developed by our hero meeting a mermaid during his summer vacation. Well, as you could expect, things don't work out too peacefully, and the story takes it from there - death, or marrying a (rather
...
cute/nicely drawn) mermaid (the one that saved him). The story is summarized nicely in its panel here and any guesses you might have about how the story ends up will probably be correct, as this anime is, for lack of a better term, "predictable".
It's pretty original; and probably the most redeeming part of this anime. I mean, what would you do if you were to be married-off at 14-15?
You'll encounter other "sub-arcs" throughout the entire series, mostly encompassing two-to-three episodes, but overall, the main focus here is on the relationship between our hero and San (can't remember the boy's name at the moment); as these sub-arcs serve to only further advance the progress of the main arc. This is what really saves this anime from being a shouting train wreck. 7/10.
I liked the art a lot. Some of the funniest moments were when San or Luna were staring blankly at a situation or an event in front of them and they had their entire eyes glaze over and liken to the shade of their hair. There are really a lot of different art styles at play here and most are basically eye-candy. The characters movements aren't robotic and rusty, but are drawn rather eloquently. 8/10.
The sound also added a comedic mixture to the characters. It's hard to describe exactly what I'm referring to, but you'll have to watch the series to find out.
But, like I stated previously, the sound (a.k.a. "the screaming")was also a huge gripe. It singlehandedly ruined the enjoyment of this anime for me, probably because I found my ears bleeding halfway in to each episode. Turn down your speakers, volume, what have you, just turn it down, please. 3/10.
To me, the characters weren't all that great because they relied too much on the comedy that each of their personalities brought to the table. Which, at first was fresh and funny, and you thought to yourself, "This is a good start, can't wait to see what new things they can come up with in the next episode for 'x' character." Problem is: they don't. Each character's comedy is like washing multiple loads of laundry: wash, rinse, and repeat.
The only characters I found tolerable were, thankfully, San (because she has a lot of screen time) and Luna's father.
San's comedy, unlike the rest was just oozing ignorance and awkwardness that you just couldn't not like it! Her character is somebody you root for because this is a harem; there is some competition for our hero.
Luna's father was just as funny because of the obvious reference to him as Arnold Schwarzenegger in the "Terminator" trilogy. It was hilarious to hear him say his lines and his actions towards the other characters were definitely Arnold-esque, and, I thought, very funny. I would easily vote him as the best character in the series.
Others aren't so fortunate. Maki just ends up being extremely annoying and one-dimensional, which really is a shame because she had an opportunity to be a really intriguing character; Gozoburo (San's father) just screams all of his lines nonstop, and I can clearly picture the voice actor saying those lines surrounded by hundreds of bottles of water in the recording studio just gasping for breath and scratching his throat. Luna, ended up being just an odd character, the way that they drew her as "crazy Luna" was too much for me to be funny and it had the lasting effect of being generally creepy. PLUS SOME MORE SUB-PAR CHARACTERS! 5/10.
My enjoyment was not a satisfactory one. If you take a look at how many episodes I watched, you'll see that I didn't watch all 26. The three that I didn't watch were episodes I turned off because I was just so fed-up with the so called "humor" that was recycled so many times it resembled garbage, the ridiculous amount of screaming, or just me thinking, "Why was this even an episode? They could have used the money spent on this towards feeding the homeless."
There were seldom, and very few bright spots, throughout the series. The love story was cute, but not as engaging as other animes out there, the comedy was VERY hit-and-miss, the story was okay, and most of the characters just wanted to make me pull my hair out. 5/10.
I wanted so badly to get into this anime. After reading some reviews, I was so psyched to watch it! Well, either my expectations were too high or something else happened, because I could just not get into it. The potential was there, which makes it so frustrating: a fairly original story, a harem that's actually above average, a love story that's engrossing and cute, but all for not.
Overall, this anime tries too hard to be funny by forcing it down, into your ears with all the screaming dialog, the love story is under-represented, the vast majority of the characters are annoying, and nothing really happens, other than a few characters get introduced throughout the length of the series. But, you know when an anime's a definite miss when a reviewer thinks you could end it at episode 14 and not waste making 12 more episodes. 5/10.

Hayate no Gotoku - you've been a long road for me: 75 episodes is no easy task for a 12 to 24-episode convert. (76 including the 30 minute OVA.)
Down to brass tax: the story has, outright, abandoned the "Hayate owes 150 million yen" arch. True, it keeps him as the butler to Nagi, but, compared to the first season, it's not the driving factor - the relationships are now.
If you saw the prequel to the second season, the OVA, you would have been slightly shocked with, not only with the art style, but with the more relationship-oriented season that is to come. For
...
example, Hayate makes only one reference the entire OVA to the fact that he owes 150 million yen, this translates rather proportionally to the amount of the "debt story arch" you'll be receiving in the second season.
If you came to see the conclusion of Hayate's triumphant victory over his insurmountable debt, stay at the door. If you came to have fun with the relationships, triangles, and awkwardness, I saved you a seat. The majority of the episodes are geared towards one of Hayate's female suitors (if we're calling this a harem). Now, I say most are, some episodes are rather needless and, frankly, there are a few I could care less about, but the longest "new" story arch that you will see will last for approximately 2 episodes in length. 7/10.
The art here is solid; much more luminous and light. I for one, enjoyed the switch to the new art style, but if you saw the OVA's and were hoping that it had changed, sorry, it stays for the remainder of the 25 episodes. 9/10. (Better than the first season.)
Ohhhh, boy. The second best part of the series was the sound. I liked the theme, and every time I sensed myself getting a little fed up with the current theme, it was like they read my mind and it was changed the next episode. Every opening/closing was fresh and upbeat - much like the show is.
Second, voice acting. You can't get much better than the two voice actors of Maria and Hayate. No, sir. You cannot. Maria, as we know is rather reserved and pensive and her voice reflects that as clear as undisturbed water. Hayate's voice in full of ignorance and apprehension, but it also full of innocent power. Great job to especially these voice actors, but to all who participated in the show. 10/10.
HINAGIKU ASSAULT. Be ready for it. Trust me. Huge character development on the part of Hinagiku would be an understatement. Albeit she is given a FAIR SHARE of screen time and another crucial development takes place which I'm sure you saw prefaced in the OVA, possibly even in the first season as well.
Ayumu is the only other standout character with her development and role that she takes on in the second season: more mature and, I found her, very profound and insightful.
The majority of the other characters remain vastly the same. Hey, if ain't broke, don't fix it. 8/10.
My enjoyment partially played into the fact that the show gave me what I was looking for after the first season: an identity. In this season, we saw that it had settled into a romantic comedy identity and spruced it up with a few action bits, but not as much as the first season. 8/10.
To me, this was a wise decision. You can't have an anime that's solely based on comedy and have all these extremely powerful personalities behind it, because the characters will seem like they're forcing it and being too fake. Thankfully, the romantic comedy aspect was brought to bear, and the "strong personalities" were satiated, tamed, and, most importantly, and garnered success.
The show still maintains its comedy and it's the length of the second season has been halved to 25 episodes, but the affect the storytelling leaves on you is as substantial as the first: it's very funny, makes impossible-to-get-every-single-reference references, good characters, a reasonable plot, good sound, and as entertaining as any other anime out there. 8/10.

I was a little apprehensive when I started a 52 episode-long anime, being mainly accustomed to watching 24 episodes and less. However, I'm glad I decided to delve into the world of Hayate, Nagi, Maria, and others.
The story is summarized very well in the details section, so if you want to find out specifics, check out that tab.
The story was very good. Its success can be attributed to the always present, comedy aspect of the series. Some might think anime comedy is a little "meh," but this definitely is an exception. I'm sure if you've watched the majority of the popular anime shows
...
out there (HtCB utilizes a lot of references from popular pop-culture movies/icons as well as anime), you're going to be giggling or even laughing-out-loud. Personally, I haven't seen many of the "uber-popular" animes out there, so I might have laughed even more if I actually had.
Continuing with the comedy, it's solid, but not "30 Rock" or "Arrested Development" caliber and you won't be laughing non-stop, but you will be laughing a lot at certain times.
Don't expect too much contribution from the romantic side of things, too. The chart on the main page of this show's profile are very accurate representations of the actual "dosage" each genre offers. But overall, the story is moved forward by the [main] story arch of Hayate needing to pay back 150 million yen (approximately $1.7 million USD to put it in perspective)to Nagi; and I'm totally alright with that.
The art and animation was surprisingly consistent over a 52 episode-long series; consistently good, not bad. It's not the best animation ever, but still really good for this day and age. (2007-2008)
Sound was sound. It's hard to judge this accurately other than pointing at the track/theme and the voice actors. All which were solid, they had a few opening themes over this span, and the voice actors were also very consistent when delivering emotional, funny, or generic scenes.
I think it would be impossible to watch this series and not become partial to one specific character. For me, that was Maria. She was subtly good and never really did anything very exuberant or anything to "wow" you. She idled in the background, but was a main character and that combination really compelled me to her.
Really, every character is well-done. Very deep (as expected of a series as lengthy as this) and multi-dimensional.
My enjoyment and my overall grade are always synonymous with each other. If you like it: give it a good grade, if not: don't. I, personally, had a fun time watching this anime. Like it usually is, the middle is slow, and it focuses on characters that really shouldn't be given major roles.
But, if I had to make one major correction with the show - more romance. Coming from me, whose interest lie in that sort of genre, I would be lying if I was satisfied with the amount of "romance" we were given. To me, that would've put this show over-the-top: funny dialogue, great characters, compelling story, and great romance.
One of the reasons that relates to the romance vs. not-as-much romance is the fact that the anime doesn't really have an identity and it's floundering between a comedy, action, or a romantic story. It's never really the same and sometimes I just wanted, like the majority of the other attributes of this anime, more consistency. Be a comedy! Be an action-packed story! Be a romantic story!
It had too much of each to really be one.

Canvas 2 is like a harem burger - it has two really good soft, warm buns, but the middle, the meat, is kind of gray and unappealing. If that simile didn't give you a good summary of the story, I don't blame you; read on for the full review.
***REVIEW MIGHT CONTAIN SPOILERS***
Story: 8
Somehow I've picked up and watched two "incestuous" harems in a row. Not all bad, I might say. So this might put a little bias spin on this review of the story because I've seen the same thing two times previous, but this one is by far the best and most compelling.
The
...
vices of the characters play a key role in the story for Canvas 2. Housen can't use the color red when painting, Hiroki can't paint and is generally in the weeds when it comes to life, and Kiri can't own-up to her feelings. Well, every character doesn't really have the ability to do that come to think of it....
Anyway, I like the nice little touches that are added on to the story here and there. Later, the manga-drawer (Kana, I think), makes references to the goings-on in the series at that point in time through questions and statements directed towards each character in regards to the current book she's writing; it brings a nice touch to the entire anime.
Referring back to the harem burger... let me be a little bit more concise: the story starts off at a brisk pace for a 24-episode anime. Too brisk, in fact, and it showed. The middle episodes really were dull. Very, very dull. Then, it got its second-wind and picked it up for the the few remaining episodes. That really is the only legitimate gripe with the series, others can be made about silly little problems that are meant to be thought of as serious, but in the end you're just laughing at it, like, "Are you serious?"
Art: 8
Well, it is called "CANVAS" 2, so I had a pretty high bar set for this anime and it was mostly good. But as the score indicates, it didn't quite make it there.
Sound: 9
I liked it more than the art. The singing of a secondary character was actually very moving and beautiful. Solid voice acting all around.
Character: 8
The characters lived and died by the story in this anime. When the story was robust and interesting, the characters were intriguing and were deep. Other times, when the story was lacking, as were the characters.
It's best equivocated to an inconsistent starting baseball pitcher - sometimes he comes out and throws a no-hitter, other times he gives up 10 runs in the first inning; it really depends on each individual episode - hit or miss.
Enjoyment: 7
Again, hindered by the slow story in the middle of the series. Also, wasn't a big fan of the ending.
***MAJOR SPOILER***
He chooses his cousin, whom he's been living with the past few years'. At the end of the credits you can see them, huddled under one blanket, looking rather nude, then seal it with a kiss. It's all too weird for me and I would have rather of seen Kiri and Hiroki get together. Ah, well, that's harem. (At least they made a decision!)
***END SPOILER***
Overall: 8
Potential for a 9, but too good not to be any lower than an 8. You'll be pleased with this anime as it follows a tried-and-true harem formula while putting an artistic twist on it (I'm very punny).

It's not a typical harem anime; it relies heavily on the ecchi and story aspect to be successful. The overall feel of the ending is rather pleasant but nothing to really write home about.
Story: 7
It has a story... per se. Each episode revolves around or focuses on a character within the household and nicely incorporates the remaining cast into each episode as it goes along. Some might find this technique appealing and fresh but it sacrifices time for development of characters that aren't pertinent to the story and are giving TV-time to "be fair." However, the story boils down to Ren's interactions with the rest
...
of the people within the house (mostly the girls) and the outcome of each relationship.
Art: 8
I enjoyed it. There were some scenes which were really gorgeous and stylized, but there were others that were very "meh."
Sound: 9
The voice acting was really spectacular. A lot of good, varying octaves and distinct voices for each character allow for each character's individual personality to be showcased.
Character: 8
Suffers a little bit due to the inclusion of having EVERY remotely relevant character have a episode devoted to them. But the characters are awesome where it's needed the most: namely the ones that receive more screen time.
Enjoyment: 8
I liked it. I would've liked to have seen a little more romance, though.
Overall: 8
Not entirely harem, so if you're looking for a true-blooded harem anime, look elsewhere. This series focuses on the importance of family and does a good job at it while adding in some pretty hilarious moments; ecchi too. A solid choice of viewing for any comedy, romance, or harem lover.

Nothing really preliminary to discuss; it's harem, cute girls, etc. Let's get right to the blunt review:
Story: 6
Not original. Guy lives with girls; one girl was set up to be his fiance; which leads to many, many emotions. However, the grade is above average because they put a teeny twist on it. I try to write spoiler-free reviews and this one is no different. If you want to enjoy some love triangle romance without too much (hardly any) deep thinking/thought, this one does an above average job at it.
Art: 8
Very good. Not disappointing at all.
Sound: 6
Well, the girls sound like girls and the boys
...
sound like boys; the inanimate sounds sound like inanimate sounds. It's done in an "okay" manner, but excuse me for there being too many "Mmm"s, "oh"s, and "uh"s.
Character: 7
Good. Would've liked to have seen more character development in the majority of the girls, due to the fact that really 2.5 develop along with the plot. 2.5 because of a startling expression of love in one of the hero's friends near the end of the series, and it seems so rushed and brash, like the creators thought that it would be a great idea to have one more girl fight for his heart. However, ****SPOILER****
it obviously doesn't pan-out in the end and, like I said above, seems rushed for no reason at all.
I'm really leaving out one important detail pertaining mainly to one character, but saying anything will ruin the story completely. I'll leave you with this: you would have to be completely ignorant of the fact if you don't know what I'm talking about by the end of the series.
Enjoyment: 6
I had some fun watching it. But for a 12 episode-long series, it moved along at a snail's pace. Most likely because of a lack in story and this anime suffers because of it.
Overall: 6
In a 12 episode spread, the overall grade should be based on your enjoyment, the characters, and the story. The animation and sound act only as a nice little piece of garnish on top of a [would-be] steak dinner.
Ah, I just can't write a totally comprehensive review without giving a pretty big "something" away. So, if you found this review satisfactory, and have decided to watch the show because of it (or others), stop reading, now because this is pretty big. Oh, before I get to that, there is one OVA after the series which I haven't watched, but expect plenty of fanservice or airtime with the girl he chose.
****SPOILER****
One of the love interests is his sister. But, the things is, we are told right at the end of the 12th episode by some dialogue between our hero's parents that Minato, his sister, probably isn't his sister. (It's not explicitly told in the dialogue, but it's definitely, 100%, implied).
Okay, there.

Unless I'm being totally dense: this is NOT a harem in any way, shape, or form. If you happened upon this series because you saw "harem" in the genre description and are expecting a harem anime, stop right here and don't watch it. Personally, I would categorize it as more of a romantic, drama, and sci-fi anime.
If you're still reading and do not care that it isn't harem, you'll be in for a pleasant journey.
Story: 9
Probably the most redeeming quality of this anime; thought-provoking, mystical, and just pretty darn good. You can read more about the story in the details section if
...
you're interested.
Art: 7
Overall, it was "meh," but during the scenes when it was necessary to have a good close up or panning shot, the artists really stepped up their game.
Sound: 7
Good voice acting, track, etc
Character: 9
Favorite characters: Takano/Faithful Assistant (I know I misspelled this); camera men charged at documenting the princess's time on earth and going about it in the funniest way possible.
I didn't care too much for our hero, but I thought that the princess's character was much more compelling.
Enjoyment: 7
It does get a little boring in the middle. Not a lot going on and it feels like a bunch of unnecessary episodes stacked on top of each other in a random manner. In my opinion, the last few episodes, as well as the first few, saved this series from being a snoozer.
Overall: 7
I waited for the "harem" aspect of the anime to reveal itself for many episodes and once I finally realized that, "You know, this isn't a harem and I'm totally okay with that," I began to enjoy the entire the series a lot more because I wasn't waiting for something to develop. This is NOT a harem and even harem fans, like me, will find it entertaining.

Damn. That was as close to perfection for a "harem" anime as you can get. Quotes around harem because True Tears is truly in a league of its own. We all know that harems are generally pretty silly and filled with more than a fair share of ecchi moments, but, dang, I'm totally, 100% okay with this anime deviating from the common ground.
Story: 9
To me, the story is created with each passing episode and that the "tears" and "sky" symbolism don't really count as it. In my opinion, it revolves around Shin and thankfully it did.
Art: 10
Unlike other animes that start off with a
...
really great showcase of animation for the first few episodes, True Tears stays consistent throughout the duration of the series. And man is it gorgeous.
Sound: 10
The soft string/horn playing into a short, singly piano note really accentuates a scenes dramatic effect. The entire track is just wonderful.
Character: 9
Really, really, really great characters and development. I was awfully surprised at the ability of the creators to profoundly develop each character within a short 13 episode span. The only thing keeping this from a ten is a short amount of screen time from Ai-chan. She's one of the girls fighting for our hero's heart and she isn't fairly compensated with airtime.
Enjoyment: 9
Loved it, loved it, loved it.
Reason for it not being a 10: sometimes I felt that I was back in English class discussing symbolism and imagery about "sky, flight, and air." Also, it got a little too deep. Just a little, though.
Overall: 9
Dang, man, you cannot go wrong with this one.
For the cherry on top of the sundae: he chooses a girl in the end. Finally a "harem" that's not indecisive.

Story? Who cares? You're watching this for the fanservice, and as a harem, you should be pleased with 13 episodes of 99%, "Tsukune, Tsukune, take me." That's basically what it is; and it's implied ****SPOILERS**** that he and Moka (pink-haired) get together.
****POSSIBLE SPOILERS FROM HERE ON IN****
It's funny, actually. I think there's only ONE kiss the entire second season between Tsukune and any of his four girl "suitors," and it's not even Moka, I want to say it's Mazore (sp).
Anyway, getting a little sidetracked there... you will enjoy this season if, like me, you enjoy fanservice and enjoy receiving a healthy dosage every
...
episode. If I just described your tastes, come on in, enjoy the ride.
Story: N/A
I won't rate something that's not present. Don't take it negatively, the season did what it had intended to do and did it surprisingly well.
Art: 8
R + V has always had solid artwork/animation. However, this would be a 10 if they had kept the animation standards up to what they were churning out in the beginning of R + V, season 1. I mean, take a look at the opening credits: that's some dang good animation.
Sound: 7
Above average.
Character: 9
With fanservice comes character development. Better than the first season for sure.
Enjoyment: 8
Liked it more than the first, but that's really because of my taste in anime. I haven't read the manga, but I'm sure I'd have more negative things to say if I had. In hindsight, I would've liked to have seen a Moka x Tsukune kiss sometime during the series. Basically, it would've made the 13 eps. completely worth it.
Overall: 8
Hey, if you liked the first season, but you just wanna feel giddy about relationship business, this one's for you.
