This is a spin-off taking place on Boku no Hero Academia happening 6 months before the main series starting.
That's important for two things:
- while you can watch this without reading/watching the main series, a big selling point here is having the opportunity of seeing things from another side and some of these aren't as enticing if you haven't seen them before, like watching Ingenium as a hero instead of a fallen background character, Eraserhead and a few others as heroes instead of teachers that need to occasionally step up, low powered villains having chance to cause some havok etc
- having a more casual approach to
...
the universe, without the need of great threats, powerful villains and such. This is not a story about someone who became the number one hero so there's no need for on par nemesis.
This series follow the daily life of Koichi, a failed wannabe hero (in the sense he can't actually act as a pro hero since he doesn't have a license), along with Pop Step (an underground idol) and Knuckleduster (a Batman-style vigilante).
Since none of them have powerful quirks, they mostly deal with neighborhood level villains, mostly a "villain of the week" per episode, although within a bigger plot behind, so there's time to spare to watch their interaction outside action and eventually meeting a BnHA character and learning more about them.
It starts a bit slow, but it keeps going forward as more characters are introduced and more plot is revealed.
Overall is a nice and chill series and doubling for those who liked BnHA and wanted to see more of the non-student characters.

Although I'm recommending this special episode, this is not the case for non-fans. This is basically showing events on Sabaody from a fan perspective, that's why non-fans are baffled by its high score while fans are just having one of the best experience ever.
That noted, what a ride was this. Had me with a big smile for most of the episode, reliving some of the most memorable events on OP and showing from another perspective, all of that with proper pacing and quality. It gives a movie feeling since we have quality and a bit of non-canonical events filled with light hearted moments, but it
...
has a regular episode length.
Like I said in the intro, it shows things from fans perspectives, some new characters that are fans of specific characters, like Nami or Brooke, have an opportunity of seeing the crew reuniting in Sabaody and why they like them so much. I won't spoil details, but it's like imagining yourself having this opportunity and going out of your way to try to catch at least a glimpse of them, discussing why your favorite character is the best etc

Although the story has some ups and downs, it was a nice ride.
Art was always great, story was always full of surprises and it delivered a lot of good moments towards the end.
While it goes way apart from Negima to validate a new name, it's nice to see a lot of the previous series material be present in this one since it's in the same universe/storyline.
Of course, there are flaws, plot holes and such, but, in my opinion, not nearly as much to dim all the shining moments this manga has.
I'd not recommend it to those who are jumping directly into it, there a lot
...
of Negima references that are crucial and won't be fully explained here. Also, not for those who finished Negima without thirsting for more. It's a clear expansion of Negima's universe.

I jumped on this a bit blindly because I was after watching everything in Tenchi Muyo! franchise.
Originally this was a looser spin-off since there ware just light hints about this in OVA S3 and GXP, but now OVA S4 and S5 are tying it a bit tighter.
Was expecting something a bit more mediocre since Sasami Mahou Shoujo Club was a letdown as S3 and S4 for Tenchi Muyo! OVAs.
Anyway, links to main series during this are basically mentions from Kenshi without even citing names.
It's an old-school isekai, when the character usually had a reason to pop up in another universe and intends to go back
...
when possible instead dying in our current and boring world and not even thinking much about it again.
But like in more modern ones, the mc is op to a fault, even tough one of the main reasons for this is all the training received before the beginning of the series.
Technically, it isn't a great work, the ost is forgetable, animation is on par with most animes (their CG isn't even as bad as some other isekais that released 10 years later), seiyuus are on point (even tough Rie Kugimiya isn't voicing a tsundere).
Story is fine, you need some degree of suspension of disbelief for a few things, but the intelligent characters try to come up with a few good ideas without trying to pull IQ250 bullshit and failing sometimes. Things go in a direction because characters need too, instead of simply happening. Comedy is abundant. There are a lot of characters, although most just appear, do their thing and that's it, no development, but at least they aren't forgotten as well.
Between action and comedy, the series is very enjoyable.
