Quickie Review: 100% not what I expected when I heard there was a Fruits Basket sequel; new characters; I love how the artist of Fruits Basket always nails what emotions a character is feeling through their eyes; it doesn't matter if it's happiness, love, fear, blood-freezing full body horror...
Detailed Review: So, for starters, I'm biased towards Fruits Basket as a default. The odds of me loving anything Fruits Basket-related are very, very high. someday, but I expected it to maybe follow the lives of Tohru, Yuki, Kyo as adults... this is not that.
This follows the story of their children plus a new girl, Sawa, who I assumed would be Tohru 2.0 at first. She had the same traits: friendly, panics easily... not a Sohma... but this story continued to surprise me because while she does have some similar characteristics to Tohru, Sawa is her own character, and her character goes on a journey in a short 16 chapter, 3 volume manga. I started this manga mostly expecting the same plot but different characters, and what I got something else entirely with the only running theme is that there are many more Sohmas.
So the story mainly follows Sawa and her journey to remembering her childhood friend Shiki and also it follows her mother being THE ABSOLUTE WORST. Tohru and Kyo's son Hajime is somehow a perfect blend of both of his parents, while Yuki's son is surprisingly cheerful and seems to have inherited his dad's charm.
I enjoyed this manga, but I don't know if I'd ever re-read it because, well, it's so short! I mean, Sawa realizes that her mother is AN ABSOLUTE GARBAGE HUMAN, but that's about it. I'd definitely recommend it to fellow Fruits Basket lovers because it's still Fruits Basket, but if you're looking for the characters from the original, you won't get that. The most we get of the OGs is the back of Hana's head toward the end. However, if it's lengthened... I'd probably pick it back up.
I heard rumors that they're making this into an anime, and I'm excited to see what comes of it. 8/10, It was a good read.

Quickie Review: Slow first few chapters, slowest of slow-burns, Not an SA copy, despite how it appears at first glance.
Detailed Review: When I first started reading this, I picked up some serious Special A vibes. It has the same parallels. The guy in love with the girl who is completely oblivious, both are smart, and both are superhuman... but where this and SA differ would be the characters. Yes, they have the same overall plot points, but it's a romance manga; they all have similar plot points.

been in love with her since they were children, and it was under the guise of a rivalry... for the most part. He does genuinely want to beat her, but he also wants to capture her heart. Kujou is... bland, blank, boring. BUT the manga does a great job of showing her slowly coming out of her shell, making new friends, experiencing the world outside of just studying and going home, and of course, dealing with falling in love for the first time.
Kujou also has an issue with change; she wants things to stay as they are forever, which leads to a slow-burn plot that's actually well done. One of the major critiques I've seen of this manga is that it's slow, but I think that's better than the "oh I like this person and we're together now" plot. A slow-burn MAKES SENSE here. Especially considering that Mikoto is going through emotions, she's never had the chance to experience before. It's very in character for her to take it slow and fully absorb what she's feeling.
That being said, the first few chapters of this manga are sloooooooow. Like, really, really slow. I almost got bored with it. I'd say things started to finally get interesting when Yanagi and Kujou joined the Astronomy club. More characters are added at this time, and I think it's around this time when our two leads get more personality. They stop hanging around only each other, too, which I found nice and surprisingly lacking in romance mangas I've read.
There are two love triangles that kind of morph into a love square, but I didn't find them obnoxious, and I think both of them helped further the plot along and didn't just serve to keep the two leads from each other.
The last few chapters are clearly the best in my humble, unbiased, and correct opinion.
If you're in the mood for a slow-burn, predictable, yet heartwarming story, I'd absolutely recommend this. Once you're past the slow, uneventful first chapters, it becomes a fluffy ride that I really enjoyed. I'll probably re-read this someday.

Quickie Review: Meh
Detailed Review: Well, the very first thing I noticed was the female main character's eyes. Like, wow, her eyes take up a lot of her face. But that was quick for me to get used to. This is a romance story about sudden love sprung up by a dude in his mid-20's and a 16-year-old girl. I don't see how hard it would've been to, like, put her in college or something since the school only played a 1% role in this story, but whatever.
The main female enjoys singing, and she does it to relax when the main guy scouts her out

at a karaoke bar and romance ensues. I wouldn't go so far as to say that the story is BAD because it's not, but I felt like it should've been more fleshed out. I noticed that plot points were picked up... then abruptly dropped; situations that would've made for a more interesting read... were abandoned. I feel like it was more like "Here's a romance! 12 chapters! Now LEAVE." and I really would like to see it more detailed.
There's a love triangle for, like, 2 chapters, then it's done. Not satisfactorily, just poof.
There's a romantic rival for, like, half a chapter before she's gone too.
There's potential for family drama but guess what?
I wanted to like this story more than I did. The synopsis is a lot more interesting than the story itself. There are elements I'd like to see done differently.
Would I recommend it? No.
Would I bash it? No. (Aside from the age gap, why oh why, is that so prevalent in manga?)
It's a very quick read and not that deep. If you've got... an hour or two to kill, you can blow through it.

Quickie Review: First Review to shout about how much I enjoyed this story; a short, quick read, AAAAAAHHHHH READ. THIS. MANGA. It's so cute!
Detailed Review: I discovered this manga by chance before I went to bed, and I had completed it the next day. Of course, it's not very long, but the point remains that I blew through it.
The characters are great. They start off as somewhat cookie-cutter, you can tell who's gonna be The Couple at first glance, but the story hits you with... not exactly twists and turns per se, but some unexpected bits and pieces.
The plot takes the high school romance aspect

and shifts and morphs it into something of its own, which I really enjoyed. I especially enjoyed that both the main characters were the same age but would approach things differently due to different life circumstances.
There is a minor plot point of one of their ex-partners being... severely Too Old for them, but since it wasn't the main focus and is a point in the character's past, it didn't decrease my overall enjoyment.
I'd recommend this manga to someone with a couple hours to kill who enjoys romance. I'd absolutely reread this.
