This is my first ever review and I felt like I had to write this because I loved AOT.
Hajime Isayama could have been considered one of the greatest manga authors of all time. The story was intriguing, compelling, emotional and authentic. Easily a 10/10, historical masterpiece. A story that would be told for decades.
But then he wrote the ending. I don’t even want to get into the semantics of the time travel and all of the unexplained plot points because it’s pointless. And on top of that with the release of 139.5 it made the entire story and its characters meaningless
...
since it implies the Titans will rise up again because of the Tree reappearing after some type of nuclear apocalypse? The ending was horrendous and felt rushed. Only a few characters had satisfying conclusions. I understand that regardless of what the ending was not everyone would be happy with it. It’s hard for a popular manga, as popular as AOT, to have a satisfying conclusion. But that ending? It was bullshit. It was disingenuous to the fans. It was not good story telling and the explanation for multiple characters doing what they did does not even make any sense. A conclusion that at minimum atleast made sense would have worked but Isayama failed to even do that. It’s still not a terrible manga, but it will never be considered a great manga because of Isayama butchering it’s conclusion. I hope to god the anime does its own original ending.
