Ok I am gonna be very harsh on this so bare with me but I cannot in all good conscience say neither the endgame or the resolution to the twins stories were satisfying because there were so many loose ends left untied even with the author explaining a few about Joohoon in the notes, they still left literally everything else ppl REALLY wanted to know about up in the air. I'll give the bad first then the good. WARNING: before you read my review or the manhwa, if rape, suicide, or bullying are triggering topics for you then please avoid.
Bad:
First off Woojin was a complete
...
psychopath, he watched a video of a guy getting raped and felt nothing, he said he was bored and could care less what happened to him, but if its TAEMIN getting assaulted then he cares. He felt zero empathy for a guy getting brutally raped on camera and committing suicide behind it, something even Taemin felt empathy for and wanted to get some type of justice for him even though he never even knew the guy. But time and time again Woojin openly says that he doesnt care about Siwon if it wasnt Taemin in his body, so I dont understand how Taemin could possibly love someone who lacks empathy the way he does, if someone told me to my face that watching a rape video that pushed someone to suicide was 'boring' I would run far away from them because that is sociopath mentality, to not feel even a shred of sympathy for somebody elses suffering, someone who has personally experienced suffering himself, is honestly terrifying, not attractive.
Moving onto Siwon which is my biggest gripe with this series is that he never got any justice, sure his twin failed and lost everything but we dont even see or know what happened to him, yet we got to see and know in great detail of what happened to Siwon tho, but Jiwook? nah we're left in the dark one what happened to him. Hell even Joohoon walks away without facing any punishment despite ordering Siwon to be raped and filmed, now hes the one giving karma to Jiwook? what about his role in all of that? he just gets away with it? thats like someone hiring a hitman to kill their relative but only the guy who hired the hitman gets punished while the hitman walks away, that is BEYOND unfair to Siwon that not only did HE suffer at the hands of this bastard but now his twin brother too. Yeah he deserves it 100%, but Joohoon and everyone involved in the assault deserves way worse.
The fact that Siwon was revealed to have been such a good loving brother who cared for him and tried to look out for him and even stood up to Joohoon for him even though there really wasnt much he could do, he still stood up for his brother and told him to back off, and that was repaid by a brutal assault his own brother set him up to suffer through, the fact that he was willing to put himself in harms way just to help his brother only to be repaid like that was utterly heartbreaking and he got zero closure, he never knew his brother set him up, never knew his brother leaked the video, never got to see everyone who made him suffer face consequences, and he never got justice because literally everyone forgot about him in the end fr fr because Siwon has become Taemin now, he lost his life and his identity forever.
His only crime was being a good kid and loving his brother and he paid the ultimate price for it, the least he deserved was to have closure and his assaulters brought to justice and revealed for the scum they are. None of which happened, nobody faces any consequences except his twin who we have no idea what it was, but clearly nothing important enough to mention because the author tells us about Joohoons past but nothing about what became of Jiwook. We dont even get to see if he ever feels any remorse for what he did, its just a rushed 'I was jealous of him, I acted out, I hooked up with a bad crowd, I hated my brothers for having everything I didnt so I set him up and ruined his reputation and got him bullied relentlessly until he committed suicide' and that was it, which is such a piss poor way to wrap up his end of the story. But again out of everybody Siwon is the one who got the least resolution because everybody just forgets about him entirely, his brother is caught and exposed and thats it, Taemin is forever stuck in his body now and will forever live in his image while Siwon just dies? he just dies and gets forgotten while Taemin gets to live on happily ever after in his body?
I get it, maybe you wanna argue that well this is realistic because lifes not fair and not everybody gets a happy ending, ok so why did Taemin get a happy ending? why did Woojin get a happy ending? why did Joohoon get a happy ending off scott free? the only ones who got the bad endings were Siwon who was completely innocent, and his twin, neither of which got proper resolutions to their stories.
And I get it, their not main characters, but the plot literally centers around what happened to Siwon and Taemin being trapped in his body and having to solve the mystery surrounding what happened to him, so this was a crucial plot point and pivotal characters that were completely rushed and brushed aside for a forced romance that shouldnt have been together in the first place. Taemin was a good hearted empathetic guy, Woojin did not deserve him and was a constant manipulator until he finally got what he wanted because he knew Taemin cared about him alot and couldnt let him go and he took advantage of that.
Good:
Listen I gave it a 4 because there were a few positives, the art style was decent, weird in some areas but overall the art was good, pleasant to look at, distinguished designs that all stood out from the others. I liked Minjun and his lackeys relationship and I wish we could've saw more of them because they were far more heathier and interesting as a pair, even tho you could argue Minjun was manipulating Hoon too, you never get the vibe that hes being malicious and doesnt actually care about him, which is why seeing more of them together would've been more pleasant to watch than the actual main couple.
Mixed:
Taemin was a decent MC for the most part but I hated how he let himself be manipulated by Woojin so easily at times, even when he was rightfully mad at him and pushing him away. But it was still great to see atleast HE cared about Siwon somewhat and couldnt just ignore what happened to him despite never meeting him personally. Siwon didnt get enough screentime or focus to really get attached to and form an opinion of but we know enough to know that he was a good person who only loved his brother and wanted to help him but was only met with betrayal by the very person he tried to help. Siwon does a great job of making you feel for him, but it sucks that he doesnt get a proper resolution so your just left feeling empty since he never amounts to anything but a plot device.
The body swap thing was great in concept but HORRIBLE in execution because what even was the point? why did this story have to take place from switched bodies? why not just have Taemin see Siwon commit suicide and wanna find out why because he pitied him and felt bad he couldnt save him in time? he WAS planning to go to school soon so that'd be the perfect chance to look into his death and find out what happened. The whole body swap thing just felt completely pointless, its never explained which is fine but it doesnt serve a purpose either, Siwon dies and Taemin lives on, why couldnt that happen with them in their own bodies? I thought maybe it was because they both died at the same time but wanting different things, Taemin wanting to live while Siwon wanted to die, so Taemins soul went into Siwons body since his injuries werent fatal while Taemins was but even then the body swap thing just feels so unneeded and just added just for the hell of it rather than having a legitimate purpose for it.
Just throwing out there but the main couple isnt inherently bad, its just that Woojin is written so scummy that I cant bring myself to lie and say their happy ending was earned cuz it wasnt, they were clearly inlove, clearly very devoted and attached to eachother, and their whole childhood bond/relationship was really sweet and heartwarming, but again, Woojin is written so scummy I cant lie and say their happy ending felt earned cuz it didnt, you just always know its gonna happen eventually but nothing that happens really makes you believe their good for eachother, if anything it feels more like codependency than actual love because they both came from messed up loveless home lifes but found solace in eachother. I just accept it because it was inevitable and could've been worse, most readers probably will as well, and besides his total disregard for other ppls suffering, and his manipulative tendencies, hes overall alright and they have an entertaining dynamic.
Anyway overall its not the worst manhwa I've read but definitely one of the most disappointing that left me feeling empty with so many loose ends not tied up, but I wont say its the worst thing ever and that you shouldnt read it, but if your hoping to get closure for the twins stories then get ready to be disappointed because your not going to, Siwons dead and you never find out what became of Jiwook, so if your gonna read it then only really get invested in the two MLs and you'll for the most part enjoy it.

this was the biggest load of crap i ever seen in my life, all that potential wasted and this really had promise at the start
but then we get to know the characters... now just to note my favorites were hayato nanko maimai jack valkana i believe sorry i never remember his name but you know who i mean, those were my favorites however...they started off great and then slowly butchered later! hayato is the perfect example of a great character ruined by bs backstory and sudden switch from concerned overprotective friend to friggin obsessed yandere, yes his backstory was tragic having abusive and controling parents then being locked ... |
