This is such a dope anime. Gets you so hyped up. Everything from the old school artstyle, excellent score and the gritty underdog story gives this anime such a unique manly vibe. It has been very long since I was enjoying an anime this much.
I mean yeah, its not perfect - the story is very minimal and some of it's parts are a bit distracting (the Fujimaki plot). Also I didn't very much cared for the children following Team Nowhere apart from Sachio. This considered, objectively speaking, this is not a 10, maybe not even an 8. But I have yet to find an anime
...
which gave me moments of such hype and excitement.
But there is so much to love here. The revalry and respect between Joe and Yuri set out from the start. The first episode, setting a perfect tone for the entire show. The visual, reminiscent of the great anime series of old, supported by descent writing even with spikes of excellence at times sets it above many others. But most importantly this anime is launched into the stratosphere by a banger soundtrack kinds of which are rare in anime. I have been replaing the main theme, theme of Sachio and slum theme over and over since finishing the show and I am still not fed up. Honestly, the music ranks among the very best and I am truly in owe of what Mabanua was able to accomplish. Dealing with a gritty and brutal subject matter, a combination of box, vintage animation, banger music and cool one liners is a blend able to create the most badass moments during its fights tha is the stuff of legends. With it's many flaws in mind I cannot give it anything less than a perfect score.
I am hyped for the next season even though I'm not exactly sure this anime needed one. Some stories do not require a sequal. If you made it to the top from the bottom up, that is the story you wanted to tell. Adding anything knew can very often look like a fish out of water. Perfect example of this is The Promised Neverland. Almost perfect anime for the first season where it actually had a story to tell. Once they got out of the farm (spoiler - yeah they do get out, duh) it is very clear that it looses its ground and the excitement goes away. We're here for the main event, not to see the "lived happily ever after" (or rotted in hell for that matter) part of the story.
With that being said, judging from the trailer, they probably picked the right way to continue. Change things up, check back with the old characters and show us some brutal fights. The tone seems to shift a little to the drama side of thing, which is a positive in my eyes.
If you're still unsure if this anime is something you would enjoy, search for the short excert from the show called "Megalobox - Rumble" on youtube from Cruchyroll. If this doesn't get you hyped up then this is not the anime for you. I highly doubt that though.
PS: "They don't make tombstones for stray dogs" is too good of a one liner not to be mentioned.

Rent-a-girlfriend is a delightful harem-like anime that has a clear best girl - Chizuru Mizuhara! (You Mami-chan simps go back to horny jail). Even though it doesn't bring anything new, it is just works very well. I'm not sure what makes this one so addicting, I guess it's just a great representative of it's genre. The focus on a small group of goofy characters and exploring a great concept of rental girlfriends (which is a real thing in Japan appearentely btw) and all misfortunes that may come out of it makes this one a surprisingly funny and heatwarming experience all the way.
My only real
...
problem is the constant sobbing of the main character, Kazua. I mean, we get it, he's a loser who can't get a girl. But seriously, dude, stop crying of happiness everytime a girl brushes shoulders with you. Also, the ending seems kind of haphazard. I know we are going to get a new season later this year (and I'm very much looking forward to it), but it could have had at least some closure.
PS: WE WANT MORE SUMI-CHAN!

Very intriguing anime series in the beginning which quickly deteriorates into obscurity. I was drawn in by the beautiful art and great soundtrack but the story just falls apart very quickly and the enjoyment with it. The visuals alone just can't hold everything on their own and I was forcing myself into watching the fourth episode. I refuse to watch more.
First episode was promising and showed some interestig characters, but after the second ends it betrays everything it had built in an unexplainable turn of events which is never properly discussed afterwards. It almost seems like these people don't know how to tell a story.
Big
...
disappointment overall because the anime is set on the backdrop of early 20th century Japan and it does some good contemporary social commentary on the side. A big shame - I don't usually drop shows but I can't make myself go through this no more.

I absolutely love this series. It may be because this is my first romance/slice of life type of anime, not being interesting in this type of storytelling up until now. But the interesting take on the genre, the characters and especially the humor absolutely won me over. It really is one of the funniest anime series I've ever watched.
Yamato (I love the way Takeo says her name) is hands down the best waifu of all time. Her cuteness is almost unbearable.
And Takeo-kun is a great unlikely protagonist. I got a kick out of him trying to figure out his feelings and how unfamiliar he
...
is about being in love and all the misunderstandings that come from it. Also, his voice actor did an amazing job.
I'm only 10 episodes in so things might go downhill from here but I don't believe it will. Can sincerely recommend this one even if you don't think you could enjoy a cheese romance story

I'll let you know on a Taisho secret: This anime is pretty good.
Even though the story itself is nothing special and, the enormous budget this show clearly had allowed for the animation, character design for allies and enemies alike and fight sequences to look beautiful. It is the superb production value that takes this anime to the next level - and a worthy new shounen to invest your time in.
The story is very much what you would expect - MCs family is murdered by demons, he wants to get revenge, kill his first demon, finds a sensei, fights and defeats stronger and stronger demons
...
while being constantly reminded that he is not strong enough... (following the monomyth structure almost to the word). Only Nezuko stands as a refreshing change to the genre. HOWEVER - somehow, it all grows on you as you go on with the story. You start to like the characters and chemistry between them (Zenitsu was super annoying at first tho), the worldbuilding, the antagonist and especially the humor which for me was a high point.
A promising start to a new shounen and I honestly can't wait for the movie and new seasons further on. Definitely check this one out - and don't take massive popularity of this anime as a detergent.

A show that I had on my radar for a long time, finally getting myself to watch it and I'm happy to say that it delivered on the hype. A great concept for a story portrayd very well on screen. It is a little slow in the first half after the introductory episodes but the emotional beats clicked for me and I even cared for the romance, which is unusual for me. (Eventhough Murano was annoying i admit). The story itself is structured into parts focusing on different side character subplots taking 3-4 episodes each. I enjoyed most of these ventures (the detective one lead
...
nowhere) but found the division too noticeable. Characters were used for plot purposes alone and then thrown away. Thinking about it now, there was no character development for anyone except for Izumi (and Migi). Also the dream sequences were kind of a waste of time (apart from the Kana-related ones they were hillarious).
The animation and action scenes were good and I also enjoyed the music and I might be a minority on this one since I found a lot of people complaining about it. It was minimalistic but it was used appropriately and to good effect.
The ending was action packed and satisfying. Appropriately concluding the story of Izumi along with the parasyte infestation without going into too much detail.
Overall a great watch, one that I might come back to in a couple of years.

I already posted a similar review for the first season because in my mind, they should be regarded as one. All of the characters, storylines and the feel for the show remains the same and the devision is unnecessary.
This was such a weird anime. In a good way though. I've never seen such a diverse mix of different genres put together while creating a coheseve and enjoyable story. With that being said, the story often takes a back seat to documentary style observations.
If I'm being completely honest, the show is 30% outdoor cooking tutorial, 20% David Attenborough documentary about nordic wildlife and the culture of
...
the Ainu peoples and the rest remains for story, worldbuilding, characters and surprising amount of comedy. And I'm not complaining, the show is as much enjoyable as educational and even if you're unsure about the comedy bits, it will grow on you and yo'll learn to love it. I found myself saying "hinna" and "chitatap" a little too much.
The setting is unique - historical but not "in your face historical" - exploring an interesting era in japanese history which has not yet been covered in anime (as far as I know) and it does a good job of sprinkling historical trivia here and there eventhough sometimes it doesn't get it right (Lenin was not it Russia until the end of 1917).
The character design is amazing and characters themselves are strong. They each have uique quircks and the bonds they create are believable. They do have some serious plot armor so the tension is not quite there during action scenes. Which however DO deserve praise - some of the best and most realisticaly brutal fight scenes (one-on-one scenes mostly) ever seen in anime. To whomever did the choreography, I want to see more of your work.
The story is great in concept, but too often derives into ofshoot side stories and you are left wandering "what were we doing again?". It creates a roadtrip-style story which sometimes introduces new characters, sometimes new enviroments but remains mostly the same.
One thing I would like to point out is how the show portrays soldiers of the 7th (the bad guys). It doesn't fall into the trap of "zombie mentality pawns" so many other anime shows and treats them as individuals rather then pure cannon fodder (they are the elite of the elite after all). The fact that you know their names, recognize their faces and with some of them becoming the main characters, whenever they appear on screen, they are formidable and pose a challenge.
I enjoyed the second season more than the first one, mainly because the pacing issues have been dealt with. I also enjoyed 2 full episodes dedicated towards character development of certain side characters. The amount of fanservice aimed at the female audience was immense, but i guess I'm not complaining, it was unique and entertaining. The final couple of episodes felt epic albeit a little rushed. The ending itself somewhat ruined by plit armor and cliffhangers, but serviceable.
Although there is one problem I had that cannot be brushed aside: I have a problem with how the Edogai related episodes were handled. I probable never saw such a comedic portray of such a horrible and disgusting practice. And the visuals were accordingly disturbing. I don't know who came up with this idea, but it made my stomach turn. Could have been handled with more care in my opinion.
All in all, a recommendation from me for the setting and characters alone. Or if you just want something which feels new and different.

Now for the negatives: The show does have some serious pacing problems. towards the middle I found myself zoning out and not looking forward to following episodes. The plot armor will start to bug you after some time, the comedy is hit or miss and individual story sub-plots can be a little annoying at times.
All in all, a recommendation from me for the setting and characters alone. Or if you just want something which feels new and different.

An overall descent historical anime focused on a previously unexplored setting of the island of Tsushima during the mongol invasion drawing both from actual historical events and the feel of the era.
It could serve as a great introduction to the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima that's coming out later this year.
The charaters are honestly not very interesting. Apart from Kuchii, you'll forget their names instantly. But eventhough they are very stereotypical (the archer, the brute, the greedy merchant, the Shaolin monk etc.) they look cool and you will root for them.
The animation itself is good but for some reason, they decided to draw everything on
...
a background of old parchment (or something like that). You will get used to it in time but it is distracting during scenes where the camera moves. (I know there's no camera but you get it).
It commits a lot of the typical historical anime follies (overusage of archers, plot armor, unrealistic in-battle movement) but nothing too over the top. It also manages at times to show how formidable the Mongols were and doesn't portray them as mindless zombies (for the most part)
One thing to praise here is the dialogue which is really good and enhances the overall enjoyment and score. It is through the dialogue the story and characters keep you engaged eventhough it is in itself not as strong.
In conclusion, this anime is a very good bingeworthy experience with great dialogue, action and worldbuilding. The thing that keeps it from becoming great overall is the fact, that all it's other aspects are falling behind.

Death Parade was one of my most hyped up series and consequentaly biggest disappointments. And that is due to in my eyes unfathomable change in direction the series decide to take. From the synopsis and first episode I got a feeling that this is how the series was going to be structured. The next episode was basically a recap of the first one from a different perspective, but it was done well and advanced the plot. But then there are completely "filler" episodes in this already short series that focus on the inner workings of the arbitor organisation. Why? Why does everythng have to be
...
explained? Why do these "rational", "calculating" arbitors "uncapable of emotion" act like if they were in Big Brother? Out of the 3 storylines the series follows (the games themselves, Kurokami Decim romance and the "misadventures of the bar bros") this one is so weak it drags the whole series down eventhough it gets the most screen time. Furthermore, this obsession of explaining everything "behind the scenes" removes the mystique and symbolism set by the first episode. This "humanisation" of the arbitors removes the deeper questions about the final judgement the series could have had out of the picture.
I guess I would just prefer having "The Arbitor". An anigmatic protagonist, serving as a plot device, judging individual human stories in a standalone episodical format (kind of like Mushishi). You could even leave the plot with Kurokami as a way to keep a continuous narrative. But please, for the love of God, throw away the "inner workings" that only hurt the overall enjoyment. And also NOBODY CARES FOR THESE WEAK CHARACTERS.
I also didn't care for the music, the intro reminded me of FRIENDS for some reason and this funky bar crew atmosphere did not at all correspond with the feel the series was trying to achieve.
With all that said, there is a lot to like as well. The character design, the main character, the concept itself are all really fascinating. The individual "human stories" are strong too. The game of life and death, this arena of human emotion, really does invoke the worst in people the series does succeed in portraying human emotion in these extreme conditions with flying colours sometimes. And that's why it's all the more frustrating when the series loses focus, which happens more and more as it progresses.
To conclude, Death Parade builds on a very strong concept and does shine at times, but the lack of focus, many unconsistencies and an unfulfilled promise drag it down considerably. Exploring the human psyché is much more interesting than watching arbitors play pool, I'm sorry.
To be completely honest, this anime probably deserves a 7 or 8, but some things are simply unforgivable.
