Both are shows in a historical setting where the main characters think like a modern person, refusing to follow the social norms that don't make sense to them, and working to craftily get what they want while still following the rules. Both shows also feature strong-willed women who, despite what the men might think, are the real ones in charge. If you enjoy shows with clever, loveable characters, I would highly reccommend.

Not only do they share a historical setting, but both main characters are very business-minded, and work to improve their lives by forming alliances with the people around them. These shows also have similar senses of humor, with characters being caught in situations that look weird out of context. I highly reccommend if you are looking for a show with loveable characters and a satisfying plot.

Similar historical fiction story about a spunky girl helping to solve problems in the Chinese government. Saiunkoku Monogatari has less supernatural aspects and the graphics are not as pretty, but I really love the characters.

Both cute fantasy shows about a girl who loves to read, and also contain a character who cleverly uses their brains to help out the kingdom. Mushikaburi-hime is a bit more fluffy, whereas Ascendance of a Bookworm has more comedy and teaches you about how books are made, but if you liked one I'm sure you'd like the other.
