Baka. Baka. Baka. I found myself endlessly repeating that mantra while watching this series. Everything about it is idiotic. The titular character, Index, is a microcephalic non-entity who is supposed to have only 103,000 neurons in her head, roughly the same number as a fruit-fly. Like that insect, her behavior repertoire consists of buzzing around looking for food, and not much else. The main character, Kamijou Touma, is slightly more complicated: he is able to, at random, express such emotions as fear, anger, and…actually, I think that is about it. Most of the time he looks like a sleepwalker.

it was generated by dice rolls, with the main character running into other people at random, and reacting to each meeting in some random fashion and then doing something else at random. The only time the randomness broke down was when there was some action that the main character urgently needed to take: in which case, he most assuredly wouldn't take it, because baka.
We are all used to the physical relationships in anime being somewhat elastic, but in this series they were non-existent. Picture our hero facing off against a villain in a room that is ten feet on a side. There is maybe six feet between them. The hero charges his opponent. Thirty seconds and several long dialog exchanges later he has closed the distance to only twenty feet. If he keeps running at full speed for another minute, he might be able to close within fifty feet: all while his opponent is standing still. Baka, baka, baka.
As far as redeeming features go, there isn't much. Mikoto Misaka, the “Shocker,” might have had the potential to be an interesting character, but was never really developed. Her clones were kind-of fun, especially Mini-Misaka. The two episodes in which she appeared while the main characters were absent were the best of the season. There was a bit of fanservice scattered here and there, but the characters were so wooden that it was largely a waste.
I hope that this will forever remain the worst anime series that I've ever actually watched all the way through.
