2.22 was a much better movie than 1.11 was to me. It diverts from the plot of the series with the introduction of two new characters, Asuka Langley Shikinami (based on Asuka Langley Soryu from the show) and Mari Illustrious Makinami. The animation is just gorgeous, the plot is compelling, and the end of the movie really makes you anticipate for Evangelion: 3.0.

1.11 was a disappointment for me, it felt like it was just a (mostly) shot-for-shot remake of the first 6 episodes of the original Neon Genesis Evangelion TV series. For Christ's sake, while I was watching it, I could recite lines as they were saying it. Seriously.

Animation-wise, the movie was gorgeous. (And the scenes done shot for shot shows the attention to detail in the original series)
