When you think about it, the cast of Haruhi seems to be heavily inspired from the cast of Evangelion in character design. Isn't Kyon so similar to Shinji? Itsuki to Kaoru? Yuki to Rei? Isn't Haruhi's bossiness similar to Asuka's? And the whole fighting giants in a parralel dimension thing, isn't it similar to the angels? Considering the meta commentary on otaku culture KyoAni productions were doing at that time, I don't think the similarities between Haruhi and Evangelion are a coincidence. And they both just so happen to be some of the most influencial series in anime history.

Negima adds ecchi. -Magic and alchemy are extensively talked about and explained all throughout the stories. -Very clean art. -Published in the early 2000's. -Both MCs are on a clearly stated quest, which remains the same from start to finish of the series.

Childhood friends. A dark mystery that dwells deeper and deeper. Weird monsters. Supernatural abilities. If Shinsekai yori moreso is post-apocalyptic, Summertime Render moreso is apocalyptic. It's more of a shounen, too.

Panda Kopanda clearly is Totoro's predecessor. Both share the imagery of little girls accompanied by a big round creature, and center around the idea of family.

Nonsensical, random comedy shows centering around boys, their high school life, the cute girls they pine on, and most importantly : their improbable ways to become the strongest guys around. Both feature aliens, sexual innuendos, and seem to reference each other (the "wanchu" thing). You have to watch them to believe them.

If you like Tokyo Revengers, I would suggest you read Bakuon Rettou as it gives so much more insight into what bosozoku culture entails. It will make you enjoy Tokyo Revengers more. And, to be frank, it's one of the best mangas I've ever read. If you've ever wished Tokyo Revengers was more realistic, Bakuon Rettou is what you're looking for. It's as real as it gets.

If you liked Pegasus in Oyasumi Punpun, the main character of Saltiness really reminds me of him. Both are depictions of a maladjusted man with crazy ideas and very little earthly possessions in a seinen manga.

The protagonists are young geniuses. Monsters lurk around. And they seem to take place around the same historical period.

If you like RPG Maker horror games, you'll most likely enjoy these shows. Satsuriku no Tenshi is straight out based off one. Shadows House isn't, but its ambiance is very close to one (think Mad Father, The Witch's House, Chloe's Requiem...) Other than that, Satsuriku no Tenshi and Shadows House both tell the tale of clueless characters that are trapped in a dark and mysterious building.

With their shocking and immoral first chapters, both these manga left me the same first impression. However, Death Tube only worsens from there (in terms of morality and shock-value), while Arigatou gets progressively lighter.

A white-haired person living on a boat is a BIG-TIME CRIMINAL. They each are backed by a "family" of sorts that travels everywhere with them, and who are ALSO CRIMINALS. And everyone SHOOTS GUNS and LOOKS COOL while their leader SMILES DEVIOUSLY. Also, they have a kid on board who's technically part of the team and undeniably the main character's side kick, but whom the whole team is very protective over.

They have very similar main characters, down to their character design. And they have a similar relationship with each other. The animation in the music scenes of both is great too. They're slice of lives, they start with a school transfer and they end with a separation. But most importantly, if Sakamichi no Apollon made you love jazz, Piano no Mori will make you love classical. Or vice-versa.

Movies about children playing music (or singing) to enter a competition. In both, a good student is friends with a delinquent. In both, their music teacher is hiding a dramatic secret. Furusato Japan is more of a group thing though, since they're a whole chorus.

Although Air would be superior in that regard, both are great picks if you're looking for a relaxing summer vibe with detailed and realistic scenery, summery sound effects, a chill OST and a slice of life pace. The stories are also similar. Both are about a new person arriving in some small country town and meeting, then befriending a air-headed girl who feels a strong, somewhat supernatural bond with people who lived 1,000 years ago. Both MCs get involved in the girl's obsession and both shows have flashback arcs featuring characters from 1,000 years ago. Both also feature drinking scenes, school, an expanding group of friends and a fair share of drama near the end.
