Story
Welcome to the N.H.K. is about Tatsuhiro Satou, a NEET and hikikomori college dropout who slowly comes out of his shell (and his room) throughout the series by cultivating a friendship and possible career with his neighbor as well as attending “counseling” sessions with a seventeen-year-old girl who comes into his life one day. I won’t include any spoilers in this review, but what I will say is that the story always had my attention despite the fact that it isn’t action-packed or fast-paced. What this anime lacks for in characters and character development, it makes up for in story. The characters in Elfen Lied are shallow at best. Most of the characters in this anime are either very strongly stereotypical, and they also have absolutely no depth to them. The characters definitely don't feel "real", and I can't get attached to them.
However, although I can't get attached to the characters, this anime still made me feel through certain storyline elements (that I won't spoil here) that are very emotional and... well, graphic. This anime's original storyline is really its saving grace, otherwise it wouldn't be worth recommending. ...

This is definitely one of my favorite anime series. If you're looking for an anime with a main character overcoming a dark past, falling in love, or dealing with tragic life events then you've found the right anime.
While the first half of the anime seemed to drag on a bit by focusing more on Kosei's past with his mother and his piano playing being affected by that, the second half of this anime more than made up for that. The second half of the anime focuses more on his relationship with Kaori and the hardships that come with that. Some aspects of this anime ... |
