***THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS***
Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop is supposed to be the typical "boy meets girl" summer story but, somehow, fails at the most simple concept probably wasting a precious 1 hour and 20 minutes of your life and still leaving you with a sense of enjoyment.
Story- 3/10
With a simple concept in mind, the movie has zero to no story what is supposed to be a romance, at first sight, turns into a treasure hunt for a lost record that an old man needs to recover. All the dialogues seemed very bland and there isn't a single one that captivated me, some scenes
...
didn't make sense for example when they traded phones by mistake and needed to trade them back, after calling each other to know who has it the scene cuts immediately to her already having the phone and then after seeing him at work having some difficulties talking to others, the scene cuts to them walking outside without a single explanation on how they went for that walk.
The plotlines presented weren't explored enough to make you hold on to your chair and see more, letting you feel like a waste of time, even the last dialogue that is supposed to be the most impactful one where he confesses himself in front of everyone letting his fear go away left me saying "meh".
Art- 9/10
Probably the best thing about the movie, vibrant colors, good character designs, and beautiful environments that make you enjoy it more than you should, most of the time I forgot the dialogue and was amazed by the art itself.
Sound- 5/10
Since the genre of the movie, according to MAL, is Music, I gotta say it's very lackluster, most of the music was generic background music that added nothing to important scenes if there were actually some in the movie. For me, the last scene song didn't have that much impact either and we wasted half of the movie looking for it, but I guess it fits the style of a more chill and relaxed movie. The VA's did a great job with the characters and their voices fit very well.
Characters- 4/10
If you read the synopsis for the movie that's basically what you need to know about the characters, there is nothing else to them. The rest of the cast is forgettable, generic, and shallow with no importance whatsoever in almost all the story or plotlines, not influencing any of the mc's growth, which, by the way, is lacking. There is not much sense of growth of the MCs besides the last few scenes and they fall just like the rest of the cast in the pit of shallowness but just a bit above since they have both social difficulties.
Overall- 5/10
Could have been way better and with more time, but if you want a movie to distract yourself and to relax this is one of those.
